Default 2019 Hills Off Road Vintage Enduro 10/03/19

Hi Everyone!! The Hills Off road committee is proud to announce the Vintage Enduros for 2019 will be run on Sunday the 10th of March.

There haven’t been many changes to the main 5 hour race, we proposed a few changes to points particularly on the 4wd buggies which took into account the lower reliability and lower run times which everyone seemed happy with so you’ll see the 2019 buggy points list attached

With regards to the points values for particular buggies, the allocation takes into account the speed of the car, consideration is also given to rarity of the buggy, available gearing options, fragility and run time.

We’re going to try and get the Blitzer / Plastic race up this year, we’ve obviously struggled to get good numbers so we’ve opened it up to allow any plastic eligible buggy or hotshot / Thundershot buggy to run also and we’ve dropped it to 90 minutes. Teams can run any combination of 1 or 2 buggies/trucks from those groupings and can be in a team of 2-4 drivers. If you do it with 2 drivers, you still need to ensure you have a marshal out at all times, so I recommend having your batteries near the pit stop table, also the pit stop time is 90 seconds for the Blitzer/Plastic race so you should have time to swap over and not lose time. The rules for the race are attached to this post. We’ll run the short track for this race (same track as run for the plastic/hotshot classes at the festival) so this race will skip the triple jump and the step down

With regards to the points system, I know it can look a bit complex when you’re first looking at it, the simple aim is to even up the field by allowing a team with more once a year racers, to drive better cars overall compared to a team of pros. I’m happy to help guide you through it. How it works is the team captain will get in touch with me, let me know the drivers and potential car line up and I’ll confirm the amount of bonus points the team has and what cars fit in the line up

Once again this year both enduros will be run on the one day. The Blitzer/Plastic enduro will be a 90 minute event followed by the main enduro which will again run for 5 hours.

6th team confirmed!!

The SDB Dauntless boys are back for another year, they've added Andrew Curless to the line up and a name change will be coming soon. Great to see these guys back for another crack!

That makes 6 teams, we've got Pete close to finalising the Try-hards line-up, and hopefully we'll hear from the Codgers, Bugles and Highlanders soon so we'll get up to the magic 10 teams. Still hoping to pick up another Bathurst team also. Can we get 11-12 teams in the race? Lets hope so!!

For the Blitzer enduro we're starting to get teams in which is great and looks like we'll get the minimum 6 teams. Remember you can run a combination of cars from Plastics/Hotshots/thundershots and the blitzer/king cab family

Also Nick Aiken has a Blitzer and wants to form a team so if your main team isn't running a blitzer entry and you want a steer, get in touch and we can put you in contact

Blitzer Teams

Kamikazees - Blitzer
The Dukes - Blitzer
Bathurst Boys - Blitzer
Here's Johnny! - FX10
Nick Aiken - Blitzer
The Try-hards - Blitzer (TBC)

Cheers

Mikey, I'll be another running a top cat re-re, not the pro-x this time around.
also, won't see a second Bathurst team as most of the good side of the mountain drivers are already on teams. 5 1/2 of the other drivers actually (1/2 as Brendan is ex-central west lol) so pretty good turnout for the bush

Looks like the Codgers are back! Just waiting on final line up of cars but likely that Ron, David, Brian and Rob are together again which puts us up to 7 teams and i've spoken to key members in the Highlanders and Try-hards and both teams are close to finalizing line-ups

Also put the Losi in for Andrew Curless and updated Brad Dennings ride. Seems like a lot of the rere topcats will be out there this year and why not, great value at 4 points

The Codgers (TBC)
Rob Smith - RC10 B2
Brain Goby - RC10 Worlds
Dave Martin - Cat XLS
Ron Curby - RC10T

TBA
Brendan George - RC10
Steve Thorncraft - (In Transit)

Some more good news! The Codgers are locked in with the line up

Annnnddd the Bugles are back. The Longest streak of a team in the history of the enduro continues as Thomas and his crew band together and give it another shot. Close to the same line up as last year, expect these guys to be at the front all day

Also spoke to Dave from the highlanders, they'll be fielding a 3 driver effort this year as Hoges has to do the needful, so remind me next year not to put the race on this same weekend in March

This is all great news as it puts the race up to 9 teams which will make for an exciting race. Thank you to everyone for going to the effort to put your teams together and getting in touch early so we can plan trophies/food etc

Stephen Thorncraft has picked up a Blitzer for the 90 minute enduro, so that race continues to grow in numbers with 7 teams in now. Anyone looking to have a drive or join a team, we've got Nick Aitken who's got a Blitzer and is looking for people to join him to form a team. Please send a message through if you're interested and i'll put you in contact. Also had a Castle hill local with a few nice plastic buggies get in touch looking to put his family in as a team. The blitzer race is a perfect place to just get out there and have a fun introduction to enduro racing and reminder we'll be using the short track like the plastic class ran at the festival so the cars won't get too punished

Bugle Boy Racing

David Niven - RC10

Hey guys, just a quick word about making calls on the weather when we're heading into the event

We have a contingent of guys coming from interstate this year and with that being the case, our mindset will be "let's get the race done" so there will be almost no circumstance where we'll call the race off the night before. I know this is all a bit early, but i want to put it out there so everyone knows in advance.

So potentially we could be running in light rain, or on a muddy track (no puddles), maybe think about ways you can waterproof your electronics a little if you're worried about that and think about the clothes/shoes to wear and any rain protection for while you're marshaling.

As far as the race goes, if we get heavy rain and puddles start to form, the cars can be pulled off the track, turned off and go into parc ferme (race control container) while the track is maintained and until racing can get back underway, if there is a way to pause the race, we'll try to do that, or if i can tack the lost time onto the end of the race, i'll do it that way (will test this before the race). Unless anyone else can think of a better way, my aim is that the leader would be the first car to pull in, then all cars after that, then when we resume the race we'll just do a grid start based on race order, worst case scenario is a team behind could pick up close to a lap (which is similar to the outcome of a safety car situation)

And a final word about gazebos, as we have seen in previous years, the wind can pick up very quickly and easily throw a gazebo onto the track, i recall having to dodge a gazebo and all the great helpers who quickly removed it, so please ensure you tie it down securely, but also make sure its held down at the back otherwise it'll just pivot over the fence

Cheers and thanks again to everyone for going to the effort of putting your teams together!!!

Hey all

just a quick update. Stephen Thorncraft has been in touch, they've come up with a very clever team name "the uncalled four" and he was also the first to give me his teams transponders so cheers for that mate

For the try-hards, sadly enduro regular Nathan had a clashing racing commitment so Pete is scouring the globe for a driver, Masami was already busy and he couldn't get Cliff Lett out of retirement but he's exploring all avenues

TBA
Mark Rogers - RC10 Graphite

Bugle Boy Racing
Thomas Armstrong - TBC
David Niven - RC10

Thanks to Mikey, Pete and the whole Hills RC crew for a great day of vintage racing.

Bugle Boy Racing didn't have the best of luck with a few breakages (mainly my Optima failing to keep shocks attached) but I guess that is Enduro racing and by the end I had some AE parts and some unknown purple bits all contributed by my team mates to try to get thing to stay together. As frustrated as I become during the day, on the drive home I did think it was the team aspect of the event that makes it rather unique.

Congrats to the Dukes and Codgers and Johnies. Thanks to all the other teams for making the day a close event with a great attitude.

Looking forward to the Festival.
