Default Yuma RC Raceway

Well, its time to start the official track thread!

The track is about 90% finished, we will work over the next week or two to complete the final preparations for our first upcoming race day on the 15th of September!

The track needs to be ran in more, a few of the features need to be knocked down by cars running over them so it'll be ready for race day, as well as finishing up some maintenance issues.

The track schedule and pricing will posted within the next few weeks. (those details are still being hashed out)

Here are pictures of the build progress and the final product. The total build time was about 14 hours across two days.

This was the scene at 6 AM in the morning, just started raking out large rocks and clumps of dirt.

As you can see, we started with a massive pile of dirt, and an empty lot with a fence around it. (And that pile of dirt is soon to become the base for the drivers stand)

Getting the first of the whoops in

The front doubles going in

Building the wagon wheel. By this time we had about 30 guys out helping along with employees from the City of Yuma, and it was about 101 outside!

Working on a table top

Mid morning 'lunch' break, all the dirt is in place and ready for the 1st stage of shaping

Getting the piping installed (we stopped work at about noon and resumed at 7pm)

And here is the final design with the piping in place! (some of it had not been secured yet when this picture was taken)

We are still working on the drivers stand. We are most likely going to move the large pile of dirt over to where the drivers stand would be, pack it down, pave it over, and utilize that as a natural drivers stand (very SRS-Esque )

Our track measures out at 120x80. We are also planning on installing a dirt oval. The dirt oval will be in the area where the 'areal' photos were taken. We also have plans to install a large pit area complete with water, lights, power, and concrete pit tables!

And thanks to everyone for their support in helping to get this project rolling. And a BIG thanks to the City of Yuma for providing the land, fencing, lighting, electricity, water, employees, and earth moving equipment! We couldnt have done it without them!

We would also like to thank Fast Eddies RC Hobbies located at:
2750 S. Pacific Ave. Suite D
Yuma, Arizona

Our largest goal is to bring a pro-grade RC facility to the southwest corner of Arizona and the southeast area of California. We are hoping that with the new facility we will be able to promote the hobby in a great neighborhood, and with a great facility! We hope to draw crowds from Yuma, El Centro, Holtville, Quartzsite, Blythe, Phoenix, and San Diego!

And remember those of you from Phoenix and San Diego:
Yuma is only 2 hours away!

It will still be a few weeks until the facility is ready for racing. They city will be installing the lighting and electrical system this week, and the drivers stand needs to be completed.

*update*

Looks like any racing that may get done on the 15th will just be club racing. We still need to figure out the drivers stand issue before we can do any racing.

We still Do Not have a permit to occupy. We have a minimum of 3-4 weeks before the city will let us practice. There will be no club races or practice till they give the green light.

Please check our Facebook page for info.

Have to love all forms of 'government'... give you the space and then make you wait a month to use it. That makes tons of sense.

Yeah, it can get strange at times. But given everything that the city has done, its a small price to pay...

Just checking to see how your new track is coming. I'm going to be in Yuma over Thanksgiving and am thinking of shipping a SC truck out to play with if you are up and running.

You guys are going great!

The track is coming along, the driver's stand is structurally complete and just in need of paint, the light poles are up and just awaiting final word from the city for the certificate of occupancy so we can actually start using this dang thing... Been a slow process but we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!! We are looking forward to a mid November grand opening... Stay tuned!
