David Banta sent me a picture of Tony's car with a modified center shock setup. I've got a version built up for testing. I know David wants to try it too.

I saw that in the results that Sean posted, I met him when he raced afew ROAR races at the original SRS back in the late 80's. I think he was the first factory racer that I ever met.

Pitted next to Tony at a couple of races long ago. He was running what looked like a bone stock 12L at one, but he wasn't happy with it so he went into the shop and got a new kit and I watched him build it, Turned out to be not so stock; all the steel parts in the kit were replaced by custom titanium ones made by Ron Paris, including the T-bar pivot balls, which were micro polished. His pod was so smooth it was ridiculous. He said he thought being right at minimum weight was maybe the most important thing. Course back then, every gram that came out of your car was a few extra seconds of run time. Enough grams let you go up a tooth. Actually passed him in a qualifier at a warm up race at SRS before the Nats!! Turned out he had a dead T-bar.

Tony seemed pretty cool. I don't know how much he races anymore but he seemed to have his car pretty well sorted by the main. My car was better than I was, it had the grip and power to challenge for the win but I was too apprehensive.

Raced and pitted with Tony at the 96 worlds at Revelation Raceway. He did well, I sucked. Also raced with him at the Pacific Nationals which were held in Long Beach at the Convention center. 6 cell carpet stock and modified. There were several of us from Tucson at the time including Joe Schmidts and Jack Stewart. Lonny did you make that race too?

Default New SRS

Talked to Adam C on Thursday about the 1/12 plans. He has cleared a concrete area and has stands from competition hobby. He indicates only a little grinding is needed to level the seams. Then acid etch the surface.
The thought was to have two races per week but not on Gilbert's day.
The area is not air conditioned but has shade.
SRS has timing system from Liverc folks.

I do no run 1/12 but thought it might be fun.

Sounds more promising than before.

When onroad racing starts at SRS, I will probably have a loaner 1/12 car for people to give it a shot. That being said, racing touring car or pan car typically results in addiction. You may very well end up as one of us...

I don't know, Bruce Enderle tried to acid etch his concrete tennis court and all it did was leave a fine powdery dust over still slippery concrete. The dust was impossible to get rid of and grip was worse than ever. Of course that was a billion years ago and techniques may have improved.

We'll deal with the problems as they arise, no need to get excited.

Been doing this way too long and have seen too many tracks come and go to get excited about much of anything. Just saying unless this is a proven technique, it migt be wise to try it off in a corner somewhere and see what happens.

Eric, I suspect I've been racing longer than you've been alive.

One cell is the standard. I think we should start with stock motor racing. Its hard to explain how fast open mod 1/12 is, see YouTube for examples, like the 2014 IIC.
