The traction was amazing. It made the whole lane usable for passing and we didn't have to stop for watering the 4 hours I was there. It's different from what we are used to but why is different bad? The tires we normally use will wear fast but once they are worn they work great. I ran slicks all night on the back and a set of hard dboots on the front. I couldn't have been happier w/ the track and traction. Best of all there was no dust, the car and everyone else was completely clean after 4 hours at the track. That was a first. I hope SRS keeps the sugar.

Destroying a $20 set of tires in 1 run is not fun in my book.

I wouldnt mind it if we found a tire/compound combo that lasted longer than a night. That or the shop gets some amazing deal to racers for tires and wheels, but I dont see that one happening anytime soon.

You can't use the same $20 tires you'd use for a watered track. Or if you do they become slicks and they still work great. I used an old set of $20 tires that were of no track use and they suddenly became the perfect tire and I got a ton more use out of them. I'll report back on the front tires I used that worked out very well.

Just fyi to anyone who has not ran on the sugared surface or anyone planning to run at SRS while the sugared surface remains, M3, M4, Blue, Green, soft, and Super Soft are not the best choice for extended wear. You will want to use nothing softer than MX or Orange. And if you want them to last even longer, use MC, White, or Medium. They will hold up pretty decent and I had more than enough traction. I ran MX Suburb and Scrubs for buggy and MX Suburb and IONs for SC during Cactus when the track temp was 115. Run a bar style tire for the best wear i.e. Suburb, Barcode, Rebar, Handle Bar ect. I prefer the dialed surface and zero cleanup time. Everyone has a consistant surface throughout the race.

Well the good news is a good portion of the sugar is washing away and by the mains the tire wear was a good chunk lower, I would expect it back to normal in a week or so.

Thanks Kartman for the update/info, has the insane grip mellowed out too? Thinking it would have to tone down with tire wear.

Its mellowed for sure, but some spots more than others. Sweeper at the end of the straight still has tons of grip while the sweeper after the double double was like ice.

Later,
You're video is awesome but it's your write up that I enjoyed the most.

It's kind of deflating to travel so far and find out some of the pro's you've rooted for are actually just whiny little bitches in person eh? LOL
