Once again to reiterate, we would be more than happy to run an oval program at MARCCA this year. All we need is a volunteer to set up the track and run the show and we're good to go. Let's hear some feedback if people are interested.

I will make sure the board knows about it when we next meet.

We need to find a way to get Oval integrated into our program at MARCCA. One suggestion that was given was running Oval and Sedans together on Sundays.

PROS:

- Weekend racing for both sedans AND oval cars
- Less work for race directors, since we can run both on one day
- More people on Sundays means more fun
- We will be able to try goofy things like Sedan Oval (e.g. NASCAR)

CONS:

- We need to switch the track each round
- Breaks between rounds may be slightly longer

This plan was devised as a way to possibly increase Sunday attendance and to figure out a way to get a regular Oval program going, giving the success that Oval is having in other areas.

Anybody like the idea? Hate the idea?

I would consider throwing a car together for "Sedan NASCAR" if i have some spare cash around that time. I think it would be fun, and I've been looking for an excuse to paint up a Monte Carlo..

the one major gripe i can hear is the tear down and set up time, i then would recommend not having a traditional break between rounds since the onroad guys could work during the oval segment and vis versa. and the traction argument will come up. the track will never get any rubber layed down, meaning people would complain about the traction of the track. i know i know, but all of us have heard this before. just a thought, but there is no foul in just trying it out.

Right, the traction thing is another issue, but I don't think it would be too much of a problem, especially if we get the new carpet like we've been (sort of) talking about.

You're right that the breaks between rounds would be limited to track set-up/teardown.

Obviously it's a limitation, but given the current schedule, it's all we can come up with for Oval. The real question is, would we attract any oval racers?

i think if you put out a feeler i'm sure you'll get some feedback. one thing you could do is have a contact with a local oval driver and have him pass the word at scotty's on friday nights. i'm sure that they would like to race more than once a week with the big roar races coming up. i know i would.

I agree -- the traction thing is a problem.

At Scotty's, on Fridays, it takes a pretty good run-in (i.e. several cars running several packs) once they switch the track from road course to oval to get the carpet fibers to lay the right way again and start to get a groove run in.

Hey Jeff,

Have you gotten any interest from other guys running at Scotty's in an Oval program in Madison?

Right now there are the following possibilities:

Monday, Wednesday or Thursday Night (depending on what Trucks end up doing for their weeknight program)

Saturday early morning (e.g. 10AM start to clear out in time for trucks)

Sunday along with sedans (as we discussed above, may not work)

We would love to see oval being run again at MARCCA, and the best people to get feedback from are the racers themselves. Next time you're down there, see if anybody is interested and we can try to put something together.

Well I know 6 of us guys that haul down to Scotty's every Friday night that would like to see oval again in Madison...

my $.02 --

Don't try to run Sedans and oval at the same time -- the traction thing will kill it. Us roundy-round guys need to be able to work in a groove and have it be consistent.

Sat am -- nope. Too hard to drag out of bed after getting home from Scotty's the night before (and stopping off at the pub on the way home).

Mon. Wed. or Thurs night -- would probably work. I'll ask around at Scotty's.

You must be hanging out with Wick, stopping at the pubs.
