Does everyone run 17.5 or 13.5? Are there any restrictions I should be aware of before setting up my car to race? I love on-road cars and would love to race with you guys. Not so sure about the wife at the moment. She needs more time behind the wheel.
Pro 3 (assuming it's HPI) would make a cool VTA car. Slower speeds mean less chance of breakage too 'cause I can't imagine you having an easy time finding parts for that car.

The USGT class may be the way to go. 21.5 motor w/ blinky speedo, sports car body and Spec tires. It is cheaper to get into than VTA and the speeds aren't crazy fast.

Yeah, it's HPI. It wasn't my first r\c car, but it was my first electric kit. So it holds a special place. Can't see myself letting it go. Surprisingly, parts haven't been that difficult to find. I just completed the rebuild to a "Hara-like" version. It looks really good - purple everywhere. I just don't have the electronics in yet, because I'm not sure what's safe to put in it. The technology was a bit different when this car was released. Don't want to destroy my transmission or gears.

If you guys have any suggestions for maybe battery options for motor D3.5 or D4, I'd appreciate it.

Okay, I'll be the noob since I'm in the dark about some of this.

What's the difference between USGT and VTA? Is it just motor and esc settings?

I'm pretty good with handling the speed and control, so 17.5 won't be an issue for me. When I learn how to run this can when I first got it, I but a 10 turn in it. Car was crazy fast, but I never hit anything. Of course, I was in a parking lot.

rules for both...

http://www.usvintagetransam.com/rules/index.html

VTA uses a 25.2 motor and a ton of weight in the car along with vintage (60/70's) muscle car bodies. Also they use spec HPI tires.

USGT uses 21.5 motors and a bit less weight with more modern sports car bodies. Also with a spec tire that you can get from Gravity RC (or at the track).

17.5 uses typical ROAR rules. No spec tire and they stock any tire you'll want at the shop. Typically the Sorex or Gravity RC "A" tires work really well but they also have the newest Sweep Evo-R tire that is just as competitive.

Thanks Troy! I also found some more detail here:

I just want to be setup properly when I come out. Don't want to hear anybody's mouth when I take first place, in my first race.

The NORCAR rules seem to follow the norm for most racing programs. 17.5 is always the largest class with Mod and USGT right behind. VTA can be hit or miss, depending on the day.

Everything has been hit or miss lately.. mostly a miss.

Anyone in for this Sunday? I've been asked to get some of the offroad stuff ready "just in case".. but I'd really rather be (actually racing) onroad a few more times before the season is over.

The learning curve will still be steep, but most people there will always lend a hand if asked for help and/or advice. Keep asking questions and we'll all help you get up to speed, there are knowledgeable people in the thread here from pretty much every class that's run at the track.

I'm thinking about heading down. I'd like to run mod TC but if there aren't enough I'll run 17.5

Has on-road "club" racing been on Sundays all season long? I think because I saw that the summer points series races were on Saturdays, I must have assumed all on-road racing moved to Saturdays. Now I'm confused because I just noticed that for the past few weeks and including tomorrow, on-road has been on Sunday.

Club races have always been on Sundays. Points races are Saturdays. No on road a week from Sunday due to big Futaba race.

Just the points races are on Saturday. Regular race day is Sunday. Count me in for 17.5....going to be a nice day tomorrow it sounds like
