Default Chicago RC Racing Talk

Chicago RC Racing Talk

Where's a fellow Chicago area racer racing this weekend? What are they running? Find a long lost racer back out again? Have some ideas for a specific place? Heard a rumor and want more info? Don't want to post in one of area's track forums here on rctech because you might have something negative that needs addressing? See a great win, see a great loss, see a great crash, see an illegal setup? You're a racer but secretly want to quit and just bash? You've bought all the great new hardware for your ride but still suck when you race in and around Chicago and want to know why? Need a thread that isn't of any concern to some Cheesehead unless they are traveling South of 173? Want to point out your item for sale here on rctech's for sale forums or are looking for something and want to deal locally ? You get the drift.

Who would want to quit racing to bash. I have never heard of such an idea or felt it myself. Does it exist?

Nexus and Jimmy quit to fly helicopters, I think.

Although I think Jimmy gets lured out every now and then.

Speaking of quitting, someone at the track yesterday brought up that they haven't see a racer throw a transmitter to smash it in disgust for quite a while. I remember seeing it in the past but yeah I haven't seen that either in a while. I wonder why?

So, "who" is ChicagoRCracing? That is a pretty authoritative name to take on as a username, let alone a thread.

I must have mised all the times someone threw a radio in disgust. Never saw it happen. Doesn't sound very constructive.

Hey, back to the spirit of the thread, "but still suck when you race in and around Chicago and want to know why". Ok, I would like to know why.

Sounds like we need more local tracks, then.

At least two tracks in the Chicago area that relied on onroad have dried up and blown away. Dekalb & [insert the one up north - can't remember the name].
If IRP in Dekalb and His and Her's Hobbies in Kenosha ( I think these are the tracks you are talking about TC...) were still in existence I don't think all three on road tracks here in the Chicago area would exist. Maybe Strictly because it has a small scale indoor track and the paring lot racing in the Summer gets so many geographically close racers.

Quick thought. All these supposed tracks opening up northwest of the Chicago area.

Where are they all going to get the right/qualified people to run the race venue and manage the races. I'm not talking about Woodhouse at Outback. Bob knows what to do and will do it just fine but the other places?

It's not a cake walk running a racing program as just about everyone around here knows.

I was sort of wondering the same thing. I am not an expert track-runner, but I think I know what I should be immitating, unless there is a newer, better, secret way to run a track.

I started my track because of so many false startups, but then even the real startups appear to be started by folks I haven't known to be into racing. Actually, XtremeRC in Marengo had me wondering if my track was redundant or even inferior, but then it kind of went away eventhough it had better dirt, a bigger layout, and a taller drivers stand, and allowed nitro. Nowadays, I just have to not pay too much attention and keep a steady keel because I don't know who is going to come or go. Of course, if they start up and do well, I will race at nearby tracks, too.

WHAT?! What do you mean by a qualified person running a race program, it's not rocket science? I have never run a race program but it can't be any more difficult to learn than all of the other things I have learned to do in my 32 years of existence. I'm sure you would be more than happy to teach me Kenji.
I will be racing 4wd at Leisure Hours on Sat. with my B44.
Hopefully the weather will get better soon! I am getting tired of driving almost 2 hrs. each way to go racing.
I have been contemplating purchasing a HPI Baja 5B. They look really cool and sound great. They seem to run/tune much easier than a nitro engine and gas is cheaper. Some guys who race at LHR have some, and get together and bash with them. It looks like a lot of fun! For less than the cost of a full-race 1/8 scale I can be cruisin' for a bruisin' with a 1/5 scale!

Hey!!! I have my race director!!!

No really I just wanted to comment on the HPI 1/5th scales. They caught my eye a few times too. I have never heard one though. How quiet could they be made to run

Hey Bob, what if your next door neighbor scratched up his back 3 acres with a front end loader but some pipes up and ran a nitro track there?

Any particular of the neighbors?

Actually, if I were really into nitro (and I have not been) [see footnote 1], I have a place at the north end of my tree grove that would probably be far enough away, I think I could put a nitro track there. Electricity, water and road access (ah, road access, that is why you mentioned my neighbor -- next to the road) would have to be figured out.

OTOH, can someone design a muffler for the HPI 1/5th scales that keeps them quiet? Really, I don't know much about mufflers, so I am asking.

Footnote 1: I think Kevin K mentioned in a thread about the LH on-road course about other on-road courses that closed, and one he felt closed because the owners heart really wasn't into it

The ones I have heard are no louder than a leaf blower or weed-whacker.
