Now that is what I call a race day!
Great job Andy-both racedirecting and racing!
Congrats to Mike L.- for winning the new controller!
The racing was mad fun awesome!
The track was working well.
The food and company was nice and the weather was sweet!
I located the missing transponder in Wausau and it is being mailed to me.
We are glad to get our transponders back and were happy to help our fellow racers who do not have personal transponders.
Marcca looks forward to the 2nd half of this in our new digs on the 21st.
Thanks everyone for coming and competing and having a great time!
See you at the tracks,
Bob Hommen

Gentlemen, start your radio-controlled cars

Monroe, Wis. -
Many times fathers encourage their sons to participate in a particular sport, with varying degrees of success. If the son likes the sport all is well. Unfortunately, there are occasions when the son dislikes the father’s sport. If he is coerced into continuing to participate against his will the results are usually not good.
With Dan and Gordon Sennett from Monticello, Wis., it was the son who got the father into the sport of radio-controlled model car racing.
“We just have fun racing these cars,” said Dan as he prepared his car at Discount America Hobby and Motor-sports in Monroe. He has only been involved since last fall. “I just saw it and decided it looked like fun,” Gordon said.
“We race radio-controlled vehicles here every Saturday,” said event organizer Ryan Mellenberger, manager at the hobby store. “Today we happen to have a special event going on. We’ve got some racers from the Madison area (here).”
All different kinds of radio-controlled cars are raced at the facility.
“Today we are racing off-road one-tenth scale vehicles on an off-road set up with jumps just like a motocross track,” Ryan explained. “We also have an outside track where we race gas-powered cars in the summer. On Sundays here we race NASCAR type cars on an oval track. We get racers here from throughout the Midwest. We have over 100 racers at our outdoor events on some occasions.”
Bob Hommen is a member of the Madison Area Radio-Controlled Car Association (MARCCA). He has been involved in racing since 1983 and attends both indoor and outdoor races.
“We have two of the finest off-road tracks in the states,” Bob said. “Here in Monroe and one near Madison.”
Mike Williams and his four-year-old son, Jayden, traveled from Roscoe for the event. Mike has been racing for 10 years and was trying out new equipment. In an open space the car would probably do 35 mph, he said.
Andrew and Jennifer Martinez were responsible for the timing equipment. The cars do not race against each other but rather against the clock. Electronic transponders fitted to the cars record their times. If a car rolls over the marshals upright it and it continues the race. A total of 71 cars were being raced at the Monroe indoor track for the event.
Anyone interested in becoming involved in the sport of radio-controlled model car racing can contact Ryan Mellenberger at (608) 325–4502.
