Holy cow that Spitfire is wide! It's almost a good 1/2" wider than the F103! Looks longer too. I can't tell without the axles mounted. I'm waiting on a rear pod, now that the chassis is in and I have been able to measure screw holes and such. I've already built what I could. Took a couple hours. Its a very nice piece. Maybe a 201 body would fit?

John,
You may have to go with an Indy car body. I am pretty sure that they are longer than the F1 body. Also the F201 bodies, I think are the same width as the F103 bodies.

I sent a PM off to Marty at MLP. His Ferrari body was built for the F201, but I don't know its width. The TRG body on my F103 barely fits and the battery rubs both sides a little, but I'm going to set it on this chassis to see how it compares. The Tamiya body sticks out in front past the side pods just a tick and out the rear of the pod as that's where the side shock mounts are on the Spitfire and its too short. There is no way an M-body kit would work stock. I sure hope I don't have to run an Indy body on it. There's not much of a selection for bodies with wider side pods. This Spitfire is a nice chassis though. I think the nerf bars might be overkill, but they're mounted for now. It'll be at the shop around 3:30 as a bare built frame.

Our two Hyperdrive racers use 103 style bodies here. On is the duratex and the other is a Corally. Not perfect fits because of the 10L style chassis but they work. Indy body's only if you have to, otherwise go for it.

I ordered a Corally body (Sauber C12ish). We'll see if that works. If not, I'll move on the the next body.

The spitfire front end is very adjustable and still light. This thing is sweet!

This man suffers from gross exaggeration. the M body will fit this chassis width wise with only 2 spots to trim for a good on the front pod. The back will require some creative trimming and heat and lexan stretching, but will look just fine. Most other bodies will fit also.

F1 went well on Sunday. Almost enough for 2 heats! The F1s again with simple silver can motors proved to be the fastest cars on the track!

Next round is next Sunday. Lets get them on the road!

We may get our big race! There is a lot of interest in bringing it to Madison. More details to follow.

As they stand, The classes for F1 at the level potentially being brought in for the race will be:

F1 Spec: Silver can 6cell/lipo. Tires and rims have to be Tamiya width and height. Chassis can be be any Tamiya or Tamiya clone such as Duratrax, Delphi, Cross and Tech. Any parts intended to fit an F103 will be acceptable.

F1 Open: 17.5/27T 6 cell/lipo. Tires are anything from Tamiya to 1/10 pan. This would include Corally, RC Indycar, MLP, Tamiya, Alpha. Depending on speeds, this class may need to drop to 4 cell at the organizers discretion.

Builders Cup: This class is the manufacturer's race.

Hi Guys! Try 4 cell in F-1 open. We have found that the cars are faster for 90% of drivers(We have several national champs in our club) and sure break a whole lot less parts! The racing is a lot more fun due to the close competition as well. Andy Wallace Alpha F-1 Cars, Carbondale, IL.

looks like i might have to get a f103 and then a 17.5 for the corally. im game for whatever class we run. i might have to rent-a-ride from lil-john...... semi-mod f-1(17.5) now that is looking like a good time. i am looking forward to seeing this race happen next year. i think the f-1 class is growing here in madison. see you guys on sunday. jeremy

I have to agree on that. It takes a BIG carpet track to handle 6 cell F1's w/ fast motors. We did it at Andy's with the 1st Builders cup and let them run any mod motor they liked...HOLY CRAP! Those things were coming down the front straight like Carrier Jets! One of the Hyperdrives went so fast he ripped both airdams off his rear wing. He hit a lot of walls before he got it stopped...that was so wicked, and sad at the same time. Can't wait for April. You guys make it down for this you are in for a treat. Andy puts on a good show and it looks like there may be some live entertainment again. I won't say who it is but this guy is almost as cool as me...and that's very cool.

Hey Andy! Chris and his cohorts said they would pay me to wear my hunting PJ's in the drivers stand this year. Take up the $$ before they escape.

Turnout was light in general, but we had a good day. F1 was a blast. Jer has so much mechanical grip he cat and moused us all the way around the track. He spotted us 2 laps in the end. I ended up second in the first F103. We had some debates on how and what we'd like to see in the open class and proposed the bi weekly summer series. We're going to promote F1 open as 17.5 lipo and F1 Spec. We figure if we run the open class as lipo, we'll have to develop car control. We may not get to use full throttle, but how often do real F1 cars actually get to use full throttle? That should satisfy the speed demons. We wait patiently for the decisions to be finalized.

Does that mean F1 open will be 6 cell or 7.4Lipo? I like to go fast! Well, the car likes to go fast, I'm the only thing holding it back.
