Jason would like to try the 4WD modified class at Trackside so I bought a Losi XXX4 G+ roller with extra parts and tires. Any guidence here on what brushless/lipo combo for someone entering this class?

Thanks, Keith and Jason.
I'd go with a 13.5 or 17.5 if he's never driven one. They are a handful with the big motors.

Heat will be the big issue running an underpowered xxx4 id go with an 8.5.

He runs 1/8 scale buggy and truggy OK and can handle 10th scale modified trucks OK also. I was just looking for another class to fill the day or evening and we thought they looked cool. 13.5s I have. Does the 10th scale 4WD modified class get many entries?

4WD Mod got enough for one heat for the 1st two Thursdays this season and will continue strong for the rest of the indoor season.
Gear a 13.5-powered 4WD between a 7.0 and 8.0 FDR. Put a heat sink on the motor and make sure you have appropriate ventilation in the body. Like Karl said, it may get hot after a 5-6 minute run.

Would a 10.5 be a better choice to start in your opinion then. It's just that an 8.5 would seem to be a bit on the fast side to me for beginning, but maybe not. Thanks again, Keith and Jason.
Hey guys I finally ordered my stuff and was looking to see if any of the outlaw truck guys could tell me if I did ok or not. I ordered
FT T4
SMC 5000mah 28c batteries
LRP SXX
X-11 10.5
I'm thinking that I should only use a small part of the battery so I only got 3 I hope that will make it a whole night of racing. Now the only other thing that I need to know is what are most of the guys running for gearing, and setup. I hope to be up there for the first round of the Saturday series but if not then for sure the following weekened.
The XXX-4 will benefit from a one-way on a small tight track. I struggled last year with steering till I got one. only downside is brakes for the sweeper, can get hairy sometimes. the 10.5 is great everywhere but the straight. its fine to learn the car at first but soon you'll find others are blowing past. Also if your going to run a lipo, use some lead weights to balance it properly.
JConcepts Truck Bar Codes have a different tread design on the inside and outside edge and should be mounted differently on the front and rear wheels. Hopefully someone can chime in here and describe it in detail. I do not own a truck anymore and I hate to describe it incorrectly for you.
JConcepts inserts that come with their tires are apparently identical to the popular Trinity Bomb One white insert. If you purchase Losi Pink Taper Pins, you would want to purchase the Trinity insert seperately and build your tires with these inserts. If I remember correctly, the JC tire/insert combo is $21.50 at Trackside. Losi tires used to be about $18 plus $6 or so for inserts, so the JC combo should save you a few dollars.

Sounds like you should be in good shape. 3 batteries is more than enough for 1 class....I just have 1 battery for each class I run and it works great. Not sure on the gearing...I'll try to remember to check this week and let you know.

The 8ightE is prepped for the Horizon event so I was looking at the XXX4 tonight. Seems to have a ball diff in the front now but came with 2 one-ways. One has aluminum center and drive cups the other is composit. Any idea which one might be better? The 10.5 sounds like it might be my best option. If he gets through a couple weekends without breakage and marshalling I can bump up his motor. I see what you mean about extra weight for balance with a lipo. Will any of the battery tray type weights fit I wonder. I will pull one from one of his sedans and see.
