Default My HPI collection

I thought I might post some pics of my HPI collection. My first on road car was a used HPI RS4 Pro, that I picked up in mid-2000 for $150 after a rendezvous with the seller in a McDonalds carpark, complete with electrics and radio it was my first love.... That car is long gone now, traded in on a PRO 3 from memory, but I set about recreating what I once had.

This is the only picture I have of my original Pro, complete with HPI Mondeo body and still running the original super slick tires

I found this one online and this was the basis for my restoration project, although, not a lot of that car is left on the new one I now have..

After many months of seeking out parts, this is the end product. I did finish this car sometime ago and have posted pics under another thread, but this is my restored RS4 Pro prior to fitting the electrics.

The hardest part to find was the bumper set, which I managed to track down from a Hobby Shop in France, that would not post overseas... So I waited 8 weeks til a friend was on a Contiki tour and they managed to get it for me, after a 3 week junket in Europe.
The majority of parts on this are new and everything is original HPI parts. Even the body pins.... Although, it has been optimized... As the shock oil in the shocks is Team Xray.

Now with the electrics, this is fitted with the electrics that I used when I first run the car in 540 class. So we have a classic silver can 540 motor, LRP Quantum Competition esc, JR DS-8455 servo and while I did use a KO PROPO Ex-11 Presto, I have fitted this with one of my spectrum receivers, just to make sure it runs, as I no longer have my Presto radio or receivers, that's my next project for this car, fit original 29MHz TX and Rx from the time period. I also didn't want to drill a hole in the roof of the body.....

Now for the body. I was having trouble getting a HPI Mondeo body, similar to what I use to run, and the one I did find was way too expensive from a guy in Belgium... Although, if I added up the total cost of this project from start to finish, the price of that body would of been rather insignificant...
Anyway, I found an original HPI Honda Accord body and decided to get a local guy air brush it as per the colour scheme on the box. Then I had some decals made and this is what I ended up with. I like it...

Next will be my Pro 2...

Default HPI Pro 2

Here is my Pro 2. I have just finished this one and still have to fit electrics and find some HPI slicks. This one has a bit of purple 'bling'. I decided against fitting the rear bumper parts, they do not look very racey...

And with the body, a HPI Dodge Stratus in HPI colours.

Default HPI Pro 3

The Pro 3 was my first touring car that I bought brand new sometime in 2001, after deciding the original RS4 Pro had served me well. This one is a representation of what mine looked like back in the day, when I first built it. This one is as new. Soon after this, I added more hot ups in the form of new carbon top and bottom decks and more alloy bits that I thought was possible, as most people who owned this car did. I blame Atsushi Hara...

And once again I went traditional HPI promotional colour scheme on the body, supporting the blue livery of the HPI BMW M3 GT body. This is one of my favorite bodies.

I don't have a Pro 4. After the Pro 3 I went to Xray, and apart from a dance with Yokomo, run Xray until I got a Pro 5 in around 2016. So my next project will probably be to find a Pro 4 and restore that. Although a Pro 3 Hara Edition is tempting. Time will tell. I also have this on the table and plan to build it, it being a HPI Road Star RS10G. At the moment it is just parts and I reckon I'm still missing 10-15% of the bits.... But it keeps me off the streets.
