Seems split between dirt and clay, but everyone agrees something that's hardpack.

I found some central jersey red clay/dirt. This stuff seems to get like concrete when compacted. Wondering if anyone has used this for a track or have any thoughts on it.

my opinion is stay away from job site dirt. its going to be filled with crap. bite the bullet and buy screened top soil. 1/10 drivers need a perfect surface. you dont want rocks and pebbles coming up to the surface.

Default clay

found this maybe it will help,

cla It is the most popular since when you 'pack it" it stays "packed." Plus its less likely to become dusty.... ive found with clay soils you do need to mix in some "loam" (top soil, compost, something) to make it a little less "brittle" (aka, likely to flake), You may want to get the 'yellow" clay as it seems to pack down REAL hard (what i mean is, make it semi-moist, pack it into the shape you want, and it stays in that shape forever, becomes very slick on the surface also).

Default FYI Possible Morris county location

Hey Guy's, I didn't read the entire thread, has a site been selected? I know of an old roller rink in Kenvil NJ on rt 46 that is up for lease by Jame E Hanson, It has been vacant for 20 years or more, It would make a great indoor race facility, I don't know if it is possible but there is also property behind the building that could be large enough to run outdoors in the summer. I don't think there is anything behind it that would cause any noise issues.
