I guess my questions are, is my gearing ok with the motor temp? and if so, should I adjust the gearing and how much?
Gearing should be more like 22 or 23 with that 81 spur gear. Not sure what RPM range you run or if you set it but I know 4500 low rpm and the high should be 11,300. Its a good starting spot. If anything lower the RPM range to 3900 low and then the high aroun 9600 or whatever the highest setting that is shown in the high end. Start with stock timing on the Murf Dog or maybe plus 5 degrees but I wouldn't go more than that. Cheat timing at 40 degrees to start and maybe 45 max. Start power set on high.

I know what you're saying, I just can't seem to get the motor temp over 100 deg and with the 0 deg timing on the can, heat is important to get it running strong. I came down last Tuesday and tried different gearing, motor timing, speedo setups, without avail. Also, why is it that everywhere you look it states for a 17.5 motor the ideal Final Drive Ratio should be 7.5?

Eric, I appreciate the advice but I couldn't get those temps until I was in the 20's on the pinion. As for letting the blue truck by, I did that enough years ago at Kranzels

Super 8 is the close one but its not very nice to say the least! I always stay at the Best Western right by he turnpike and it's super nice. And if you tell them you coming in for Bumps they usually give a better price.

7.5 ratio would work for alot of 17.5 motors but with no boost from the speedo. They would run that ratio just running timing on the motor.

Heat on the motor is just a gauge. If its fast it honestly don't matter what the temp is as long as its under 175 degrees.
