Off-Road Track, Steel City Hobbies-MD

1 Attachment(s)
Steel City Hobbies built an Off-Road track at the store in Maryland. (About 89 miles south of Pittsburgh, PA) The track will be evolving over the course of the warmer months and will provide fun and excitement for the planned points series racing this spring and summer. Winner of the spring point’s series will take home a trophy almost 6 foot tall! Finally something that is given back to a fellow racer.

For more information, check out www.steelcityhobbies.com as pictures and stories are updated every few days.

Nice track! Probably the best in the whole state of Maryland.... let alone western PA, WV and Ohio! Nice pics too.

Can you tell more about the surface of the track? Looks like a lot of rocks but with decent jumps.

Mike@StlCity 04-21-2004 01:44 PM

Racer,
The track is a decent size track. 10' lanes minimum. Any rocks and gravel you see in the picture earlier is because that was taken before ANY sweeping/brooming. We swept it off yesterday and it is awesome. Hard surface with very little loose spots. AMBrc timing system was just planted today. This weekend kicks off the 1st of 9 points races. The 1st place trophys will be 5 to SIX feet high, so come on over to start buiding your points.

How many races in the points series? What classes are going to be eligable for the six footer trophy?

Mike@StlCity 04-22-2004 07:18 PM

The spring series will host 9 races. The track has shaped up nicely with 10' lanes, smooth over jumps that will provide lift when wanted and a new AMBrc timing system for accurate marks. Located right off the main road (route 219) and rest room facilities on premises. Restaurants just down the road. Any more questions just ask!

Weather looks good for this weekends 1st race of the season and the 1st race ever at this new track. Good luck to all who come on down and to all for wherever you race this weekend!

Racing this past weekend was extreamly busy... but more so in the store with all the on-lookers. This is a track where there is high visability from a main road so the store was hopping. Looking forward to this Saturday as it should be a good time.

Thanks for all the emails. It is easier to do a mass post here on RC Tech.

Trophy and Points series started last week. With only 8 more races to go, you must attend at least 6 races to place for a trophy, because we want to keep a broader spectrum of racers to be contenders for the 5 to 6 foot trophy. These large trophies are for the Nitro classes only, but we are racing electric too.

Race # 2 this Saturday, May 1st!

Good luck.

Please post questions or comments here and I will try my best to help answer them. You can also check out www.steelcityhobbies.com for more details on the track and race series.

Thanks!

Sunny weather for most of the day. In the last "unlimited monster truck" class, it did start to shower, but this was a short window of rain between the final heat and main. All racing was finished up well before the heavens opened up. Racing only took under 4 hours as we try to run a tight program.
Thanks again to all that participated in this week’s points/trophy race.

Trophy Race wide open!

Weather looks good for tomorrow's race! Trophy placement is WIDE open as of last week. Only six weeks to prove yourself to win the HUGE trophy! Track is under 2 hours from Pittsburgh, and 2.5 from the DC area. Good luck to everyone tomorrow!

Trophy Race STILL up for grabs with Pot-Luck Race Option

The track decided to add a holiday race to the schedule called the POT-Luck race that will be on Sunday, Memorial Day weekend. This race may be used to add or replace points to your record. That means, you can start racing this weekend and meet the 6-race minimum to win a great trophy from Pittsburgh Trophy. AND, you will have the opportunity to get you name placed on the Store trophy.
The Pot-Luck race will be a picnic race so bring some food! Racing looks good for this Saturday, as the chance for rain is slim!

23 TONS of sifted Dirt

The track is ever-evolving. Yesterday we dumped another 23 TON of sifted topsoil on our track. We hope to continue adding to the track throughout the summer. We are the ONLY track that gives something back to it's racers. 5' Trophies for this Spring Series Points winners that will conclude in just 3 more races. Saturday/Sunday Flip racing this Summer. And another Points series next fall.
