Jon,

Those stakes look a lot like the tent stakes they sell at the px/bx. I know the tops are green but cant we just spray paint them orange or something? Maybe another option, I have a few laying around the house...i'll bring them Sunday.

Gents,

I went by and spoke with Moore and the other SeaBee's this morning,

We ourlined the borders of the lower track and came up with a loose way ahead, I asked them to dump the remainder of the dirt in the area where the beginner track is located and we can move it from there to where we need it.

I also asked them if they could be there on Sat/Sun... Sat should not be a problem and will greatly increase our ability to get some more work done with two operators and many hands on the track.

I was also stopped by the Asst Camp Commander, he may have more dirt from us, clean dirt for barracades, this may work for top soil, and to smooth out the rough spots.

Here is the kicker, The seabee's will be on site Mon and Tue to do nothing but shape, groom the course etc.. so if anyone can volunteer their time to be on site to direct that would be great...(0800-1600)

We need to do a big push to get this done as soon as possible, the General was briefed that it would be DONE by the end of the month, (I did not do the brief)...

I would like to discuss this on Saturday, as the Seabee's will be there and the key players can give specific directions to them for Mon/Tue.

Picked up 30 more stakes at Sakumoto out gate five.

Stopped by this afternoon. Dirt is spread out on lower track and 4 more dumped over by where the kiddie track will be. They will bring the last of the dirt on Friday, so 4-5 more loads.

I have family stuff on Saturday, but Rob said he be there about 0700 and he can get a lot done with the loader.

I will be there Sunday AM with the tamper, skid and roller. My intention is to start putting down some or most of the tubing. I will also bring several drills, bits, punches for doing that.

Igy has the plan for the 1/10 track we can start laying that out and if someone wanted to design something simple for the kiddie track, it could be done in one day.

Default RC Support, AAFES Exchange mall.

Looks like you guys have the beginnings of an awesome off-road track. I'm retired military and I own a few hobby shops and have a contract with the exchange system. The exchange system (AAFES) told me about your effort. I have had a large off-road track and a couple of on-road tracks and an indoor track. So I have some experience with building rc tracks. If there is something I can do to help let me know, and I'll see what I can do. I did notice you were buying tent stakes. Unless things have changed you should be able to get some items through the self-help programs. We used rebar for stakes. You take them and cut them down to about 18" and bend them at the top. Then you drive them through holes in the pipe. The Seabees should have lots of rebar.
What classes are you going to be running? Once you get it set-up send us some photos. We are kind of unique in that we carry almost every major brand of rc stuff and we accept the miltary Star card.

I went out to Kadena years ago - it's good to see MWR etc. getting involved with stuff like this.

I have family stuff too this weekend (14 year anniversary), so Sat is definitely out. Sunday is a possibility though.

As for the kiddie track design. A simple kidney bean shape I think would be fine, with a couple bumps thrown in for good measure.

Any word yet on the ISO Robert? Do we even still have it?

All,

Please welcome Bill from hobbycentral,

I have been talking with AAFES in refference to making some of the more popular RC items available here on island thru the exchanges.

I have received a great deal of information directly from AAFES Hq who also contacted Bill and let him know of our effort here on Okinawa.

As Bill mentioned in his post, they carry all Major brands, parts and accessories and also offer a nice Mil discount, they are also contracted thru AAFES to accept the STAR card.

I am looking forward to this weekend and the progress we will make over the next few days.

See you all there...

Rob

if your coming from Kadena the EASIEST (not the shortest) way is go out gate 2 to Koza Music and go left there, which is North on 330, that will become 75 and stay on it all the way to Courtney, about 20 minutes. Camp Courtney will be on your right as you go in the gate, make the first right after the gate at the blocks toward the mess hall/barracks the track is just after that.
