What Class?
I love anything offroad. I have always liked a 2wd electric be it a truck, buggy, etc. because it forces you to learn throttle control and the racing is typically a little cleaner. With that said my favorite current class is 1/8 buggy. Fast, tough, long race times, less wrenching on race day, set-up is not super critical, big air! Fun, Fun, Fun.
Favorite class of all time is 1/10 gas truck. The long race times of 1/8 buggy with a very throttle sensitive 2wd chassis. Unfortunetely, it's dead as a doornail now. lol.
Usually the track dictates what class is the most fun to drive....

Let's revive the 2wd gas truck class. I've got one & I know of a few others. They are ridiculously cheap on ebay these days.

Ok, but we might be fighting a losing battle trying to revive a dead class. :lol. You know how it is, in rc car racing there is always a new class, there is always a class that for whatever reason loses popurlarity and goes away and try as you may.....can't stop it.....there are exceptions-1/8 buggy, 1/10 buggy, 1/12 scale onroad, etc: I still have my gas truck, pretty fresh engine too. I actually dragged my stuff out last night. Out of four starter boxes I have every little 12v battery in them would not take a charge.....ugh. I'll get it together..lol

1/8 vs 1/10
There is no doubt that the price of entry into 1/8 is considerably more, but I'm not convinced the weekly cost is that much more. I can only compare cost of running 1/8 to old electric technology(brushed motors and Nickel Metal sub C cells) as I have not had the pleasure of using brushless technology yet. What I loved about 1/8 nitro is that I could flush the engine after a race, put it in a zip lock back and the next time I went racing it was ready to go. I didn't have to replace brushes, cut coms, cycle batteries, constantly buying motors and batteries etc. They didn't give away Lathes, Turbomatchers, and the other support items needed to compete at top level either. When I calculated actual "trigger time" to dollar spent I found that 1/8 buggy competed very well. You break less parts with 1/8 scale, The car remains "fresh" longer than a 1/10 scale. You have the ability to go out in practice and just add more fuel for more track time combined with a 15-45 minute main depending on the race, and the joy of not having to worry about a 1st turn pileup ending any chances of winning because there is always plenty of time to catch up, the added element of pitstops, and I can honestly say I had more fun for dollars spent.....but maybe the new electric technology swings it back the other way...
