Default R1 Wurks brushless motors

Anyone have a good timing and FDR setup with 21.5 motor on f1 or USGT?

Thanks for opening this thread.

So far the r1 motors are proving to be awesome. The first sample 13.5 motor tested, which was picked at random, tested better than the best ORCA, team Powers, REEDY, TP, killshot ever tested by us. We know that the top of the production should be as close to a d3.5 as it gets.

In a Sedan, the R1 13.5 gave us a hot lap 0.2 tenths faster than the d3.5. Two whole tenths!!!!

What. I can tell you is the motor build and quality is as good if not better than what is available currently out there. The motors have more RPM than the d3.5, so much so, that when unloaded you can hear it rev up in the car. A LOT!

In a 13.5 sedan i am gearing 2 teeth lower than with a D3.5, the motor still has more top speed (it is visibly faster) and has a lot more midrange. It runs more like a mod motor Than a stock, always having power available when the peak is high on the battery. I actually dialed a little negative expo on the throttle to mellow out the throttle input an make it easier to drive because it just has so much rip.

When it comes to a 21.5 I would start 2 teeth lower with the timing mark at 25 (the motors have about 30 degrees built in). The motor should rev more, so it should give you the top speed you want. Temp and go from there. Don't be scared of gearing down even more to find the sweet spot, because these motors LOVE to rev.
THE FRIDGE likes this.

2nd that! All I can say is this motor is going to be the LEGAL game changer of this year. Very first day out I borrowed a friends to try out before I could order mine. Wow! I felt that my motor worries were over finally. Now I have the chance just to work on setup. I wired motor in and recalibrated my esc. My radio settings were still at 100%. It felt like I had a mod motor in with fdr at 3.52 and motor timing at 30*. Then I turned my radio throttle epa back up to 120% Holy $#%@!

Wait a minute.... Radio throttle EPA really can go above the upper limit of ESC setting? I thought that throttle EPA greater than 100% was for mechanical throttle of gas cars.

Anyway, I am getting more anxious to see what the motor can do now.

I can really say this motor performance is exceptional I'm a fairly ok driver and very new to tamiya Mini Cooper cars infact 2 weekends ago was my first time driving a mini and I installed this motor and right away I was 1/2 second of the competitive pace for the track ... I was very amazed infact the guys on the driver stand was saying while I pass the front straight " woh what motor is that !" You really see the car move in the straight and give you good torque in the inside section of the track.. I was so happy I got 2 more motors a 21.5 and 13.5.. This motor definitely will shine in the hands of talented drivers and give them the edge they have been looking for...

Unrelated/related question:

Anybody got a couple of batteries they can scale and post the weights here? Interested in the 7200 and the 4600, but I'd love to see them all if there are more.....

The 7200 came off 298-301 grams on my scale. I had to add weight to under the esc to balance the car.

I feel the motor got lots of potential. I run the 21.5 at tcs gt3 geared at 3.3 and 28 timing. I think I need to go to around 3.5 fdr and try 35 timing next time. Very happy with the wide power band.

I would start around 4.4-4.5 and 30 degrees of timing.
