I would start them as follows....

4499 Purple/Red
767 Purple/Purple
Fbrush Purple/Red (tweaking the red to be a little stiffer, but not quite a purple)

XXX brush, Purple/Purple....

Of course, these are all starting points....many other factors weigh in, so I always do the smart thing........look at the other fast guys at the track and see what they are using and go from there.....

Eddie - What about starting point for stock dirt oval, w/ a 215 center line?

Would you recommend cutting the trailing edges of the brushes?

I am not a big oval expert, so I tend to look around and copy what I see is fast and then try stuff from there to get more power....


The biggest thing with Oval is you want to make sure you are reducing the rolling resistance of the motor to the least amount possible without giving up HP or creating any brush bounce.....

Trimming the brushes is a good way to accomplish this, along with springing a bit lighter....

I would try a hole first, see how that works.....then move to the trailing edge if you are not liking it......and then maybe trim both the trailing and leading edge (same amount)........from my experiences (which are limited) in oval, spring tension plays a bigger factor than brush cuts do.......a fiddlestick is a must to adjust springs to get those middle tensions in between colors.

Sorry if thats a bit of a half assed answer, but I don't wanna steer ya in the wrong direction.......

Another thought it slotting the brushes. I am not a fan of it typically, but it seems to work alright on lighter cars like pan cars. Just putting a hole in the brush is probably more than enough.

Team Brood takes the Dave Mapston Memorial race.
Team Brood driver Tim W. takes the TQ and win in modified truck. And Brood associated driver Nate C. takes the TQ and win in Modified buggy with Tim W. taking the 2nd spot and fellow TRCR racer taking the 3rd.

Modified truck using a Checkpoint based 12/2 peter porno wound arm. with silver brushes and silver springs put out enough power to lap the field in a2. Consistant laptimes a second faster than the other trucks and wheelies down the back stretch. Fun times.

I've ordered batteries & motors from you guys several times and very satisfied with your stuff. I'm looking for the best 19t motor current for Foam TC. I ordered a CheckPoint 19t from br00d last year and was big time disappointed. I ended up with a Komodo. Is that still the optimum motor, or would you recommend something different? Thanks!

Good news on the crawler front, I may have come up with a motor that easily tops 12.5 torque and has shown some numbers in the 15.1 range... We will have some more info on it soon, but it's looking to maybe end up being affordable AND awesome. It's mass slow, so I am thinking about calling it the Mike Dumas edition so we can burn up some old decals...

Also for those of you who are interested, we have a 17x2 24 degree can motor available. We've had some interest in this motor from several people...we're dubbing it the Chernobyl...

What should the spring tension be on a komodo dragon using F-brushes with purple purple springs, using the Trinity "spring thing" to check tension. Thanks

Silver Extra Heavy Tension (#4036) = 4.5
Purple Heavy Tension (#4033) = 3.75
Red Med./Heavy Tension (#4389) = 3.25
Green Medium Tension (#4028) = 2.5
Blue Light Tension (#4032) = 1.5

Thanks for the super quick response, now should you try to keep the same tension as the comm gets smaller? and same on both the negative and positive.
