Will depend a lot on your track size and how much breaking you need to do for your layout. Here is a good starting point.

Unboosted start at +3 timing tick on motor at 4.20 FDR increasing your pinion 1 tooth at a time until you reach 150deg (no lower than 3.8FDR)

Boosted start at 0 timing on motor 6.5 FDR increasing your pinion 1 tooth at a time until you reach 150deg (no lower than 6 FDR).

FDR = Spur/Pinion x Interal Ratio

Most of the fast guys at my track have strapped on large blower fans to carry a couple extra pinion teeth. (eg. http://www.sidepieceracing.com/products/geisha/)

Does any one know where i can purchase D3 brushless endbells with the timing marks? I picked up the very first versions of the D3 13.5's and they did'nt come with the timing marks.

I just bought one of these motors and it seems to spin very easily. This is a 21.5 and I am comparing to a Novak 21.5.

Driving with this on an F1 car it seemed to be okay but I couldn't get any brakes using a Telin RS. Tekin brakes were turned up to step 12 out of 13.

Is this normal or should it have some good pop when turning the rotor like the Novak?

What rotor/timing is recommended for 1 cell oval 17.5 on a small track in blinky mode? Thanks?

It will spin reasonably free, if you give it a good spin by hand it will free spin for a moment and come to a halt.

As for break strength you may just have a tuning adjustment or calibration adjustment out of whack with the radio or ESC; in my experience it has adequate breaking power.

Relatively open corners or tight/technical? That is a much lower fdr than I have heard most rug racers running on the Revtechs...

Interesting to hear your experiences though. How did the lap times differ when running 3.9 vs the 3.7?

the revtech is advertised as a 3000kv motor so you should have a numerically higher gear ratio than the 2300kv D3. I know on our track at timezone which is pretty damn big I run a 3.8 fdr on my D3 and it's a rocket ship. Motor to motor variances do occur, so If it's rocket ship fast at 3.72, try going a gearing that will give you ~ 3.8 (numerically higher) and 3.6(numerically lower). It sounds like you may be under geared for your track, layout, driving style. But as always once you find a gearing that's fast check lap times and motor temp to make sure your in the window. This is assuming your running a 30mm fan + heat sink. Sounds like your pretty close to proper gearing tho, just keep it under 160. Keep in mind just like nitro it's not all about tuning to temp, my orion motors for example run at about 110-120 and are rocket ship fast at that temp.

both technical and open the lap times were close but 2/10ths faster with the 3.72

thats 3 different motors they all run the same,not undergeared guys at my track are running 4.0 so i am not undergeared 25mm fan no heatsink its on the money.
thanks

Apex fantom = Epic / Revtech. If you were .2 faster gear up and see what it does. And the revtech, d3 etc do run differently...
