OK I am going by the Battery manager just so you know on the IR and the Much More Cell Master for the voltage...
When I DS I see an increase from 9.24V to 9.43+
and IR decrease from 32IR to 21IR
That are the numbers I see...
Some packs are better and some worse but that is the Average.

What stage of the cycle do these #'s represent...I am unfamiliar with both of these tool's you mention in your post. Also keep in mind I havent been around for sometime now. The last time I raced 2K were the batterys to have...I always dead shorted my packs back then...I recall #'s in the 7.06 avg voltage range @ a 20 amp dischg...with low internals. This was on a t-30.

It seems that really good packs are not as difficult to attain as they used to be back in the day. Still, I hate to destroy a 1.20+ across the board pack @ 35 amps.

Shookie (don`t go mad on me) BUT

i tryied the dead shorting jobbie via a novak dead short tray earlier (not with the newer cells ) these was with the 1.18+ cells not the 1.2+ ones

wasen`t happy with it atall , think i was doing more damage then good ,getting false peaks (which was a pain) , means you had to baby sit the charger
didn`t notice anything on track either
so i`m just doing the tray .09v charging with step charge & every thing is hunky dorie (like i did with the gp3300 really)

so i have my fingers crossed i don`t tread on any`s toe`s (be a first )

Not mad bro,
Yea the packs will almost always false peak because of the DS.
That is why I use the Much More Cell Masters because when you Step Charge the first two stages are peak LOCKED so they will not false peak. The third stage begins at 3900mah so I know that they will only peak when they are truely full.
Now about my numbers.
First the VOLTAGE is the final voltage my pack reaches during charging.
Now the IR from the Spintec Batter Manager basicly it does what ever magic to help the IR and it will spit out the numbers....I do make sure that I use the very same technique(spelling) every time as to make sure the numbers are comparable.
Now if you race anything lower than 19T I wouldn't recommend DSing.
Now Here is how I get my packs down to zero.
Integy 0-30 for three hours after discharging with the Battery Manager
I then add a wire from + to - and pull the pack out and store
Or I use the Much More Zero V trays and do the same.
I always check with a voltmeter to see that the pack is truely at 0.0V
Hope that clears anything up...

i will add
that i never done it before except with the sanyo 1700sce many years ago
by putting a resistor on them to pack (yes i`m that old )

but since the EA 1B3800`s now . are so powerfull do you need to dead short them ??????
each to thier own ,i guess

i will read & follow
had a little chat with danny`s thread re;dead shoting & actually gave it a go
to no avail

I think it is a preference.
I Like it cause well it is truely equalized when you start charging.
But now with advent of the newer technoligy (i.e. Team Wave EQ tray and coming soon to you the ICC from spintec) Dead Shorting will not so much be needed anymore. I am about to test three new packs from EA without DSing and usign the Team Wave tray and see what and if there are any differences on and off the track.
Will keep you posted though.

I don't know that its needed, but if there is a gain to be had from it then it's what I am looking for. I can remember running 1200's @ a local offroad regional event many moons ago...lol

With being out of the loop for so long, and so many different opinions from different racers on different subjects I will simply have to do what I always did in the past...trial and error. I have been looking @ novaks tray, as well as tekins.

Thanks for the input guys

shookie,
Out of curiosity, Did you record the discharge curve before shorting and then compare it to the curve of the shorted pack?

Anytime you decrease runtime, voltage is going to go up, but you have to look at the curve. A higher runtime pack carries the voltage longer. Typically I take and record my curve on a GFX every 15 seconds then do an average voltage calc at each step starting with 195 for my stock packs and 300 seconds to compare my 19T packs.

I might short one of my packs to see how it compared before and after. If the pack only loses say 30 seconds of runtime (going from 400 to say 370 sec) by shorting I think I will see gains. But if i lose 50 seconds (and drop to around 350 sec) I think leaving them unshorted is the way to go unless maybe for stock racing. By the way I run oval no on-road.

I tried shorting the old style IB3800 (1.17 numbers) and it did not work out too well. Yeah the packs had 350 second of runtime still, but they would come off with only like 80 seconds left in stock and fall hard on the track. Even with shorted 3300's we came off with 115-125 sec.
Something was definatley wrong with those first gen cells

like the Tekin tray as it`s quite easy to do with ie;;just chuck your cells on

team wave jobbie looks expensive ,looks trick
is it bipolar ??? like the tekin tray, tekin one also has chipsets for cutoff instead of stone resistors which still draw power even when it`s @cutoff level

tekin one you can leave on for 6 weeks & it will only be down to .5v
goes down to .7 when you take it off when diodes goes out
