In 17.5 we are running about a 3.75fdr with 1mm timing past the last timing mark. You get good speed and good rpm. We run the stock rotor. I have not ran it in my buggy yet so I cannot advise anything there but you can try the same gearing as your d3.5 check temps regularly. Um start with 1 notch less on timing until you get the gearing right.
I would agree. I run my 17.5 at 3.72 FDR and 1.5mm past the last timing mark. It has great speed and torque.

Did anyone answer this question? I suspect I have that bearing going bad too and would like to replace it and/or the entire senor housing (Or upgrade to ceramic bearings if the motor doesn't already have them). Is there somewhere in the USA that sells those parts for ORCA motors?

I did a few tests with my ORCA TX 21.5 in my 1/12.

Great motor, a lot of rip in the infield and down the straight.

Motor settings, 3.50 mm past the timing marks.
Outside motor temped at 140 degrees, inside (as best as I temp it) 176. Mind you the ambient temperatures were around 20 degrees Celsius.

You do not have to replace the sensor housing. Just simply remove it and the bearing will push out of the housing easily with any tip of a wrench. I use a bigger size (3mm) so it doesnt damage the bearing. Going back in I push them in with an eraser on the end of pencil.

You dont have to worry about motor temp with the orca. Ive never seen one blow up and seen them up to 240F. Just gear so the lap times are fast and it doesnt fall off bad at the end. Generally once you hit this sweet spot it will be in the 160 range in a tc. 12th I have only ran 13.5 and they are in the 170 range in those.

Eric, how much timing were you running when the motor came off @ 170F?

When I tested the 13.5 ORCA in WGT prior to Vegas this past fall, I had trouble getting it above 130F... And my WGT typically runs ~10F hotter than my 13.5 12th, given the same motor.

The orcas have a sweet spot, it took me forever to find it but once I found it. I could run the car HARD and it would come off at 130-140 17.5 sedan. Really every motor has this sweet spot.

At Vegas it was 2.5mm past the last timing notch and 84mm roll out. This is on super high bite so the motors will run hotter there over running at a club race with medium traction.

yes, they have been for a while now. Should be able to be found at roarracing.com under approvals.

They don't update their list that often. You'll find the approval on the ROAR forum though.
