Default ORCA Places 2nd in 17.5 Ramping at 2011 Reedy Race of Champions

My son, Andrew Hardman, was able to place 2nd in the 17.5 Ramping ESC at the 2011 Reedy Race of Champions using the ORCA Vritra VTC Pro ESC Mk II ESC. He also placed 3rd in the Open 'B' Main. Andrew feels the ORCA offers an unmatched combination of power and smoothness in both classes.

Thanks to Team ORCA USA for the great ESC and great support.

Regards,
Ian

anybody could share their ESC set-up for TC using the 4.5T RX2 motor? track is med to high traction with technical infield and quite a good length of straight (roughly 150 ft).

I got a Pro Spec TC Mk2 a couple weeks ago. Very smooth power. Someone on this thread said it offers the highest frequency of all and is therefore the smoothest. Its the lower frequencies that give smooth delivery, I usually run GM where you can also make these adjustments. Use the high freq for more power throughout the range, acceleration and top speed are both improved with the high freq but temps can go up dramatically especially at 16K or over, just like the GM.

What's bugging me is the design. Cables exit from 3 sides making installation a nightmare. I don't like any wires on the outer edge of the chassis where they can get ripped off when the inevitable happens, and some idiot drives into you. Huge grey heatsink for 160A performance but I'd prefer it detachable/lower for a bit of stock racing. But if it needs to be there, ok.

Clever in the fact it has few adjustments but has the most important ones, fab power delivery and runs quite cool makes for consistent low laptimes, means its a keeper, great ESC but please rethink the design. Cables exiting 1 or 2 sides and all black please !

Hi Ian
Congrats with Andrew's brilliant driving.
Would you mind to share some setups.
I have a MK2 with RX2 17.5. Need a good setup for a track with a 70M straight.

Regards

Ian (adhsponser) had been giving me a friendly ribbing for a while about the Tekin ESCs I had in my cars. I finally decided to try out an ORCA just before the summer, mainly just to run mod, but I've been using it for a while now for 17.5 and 13.5 boosted classes and I feel compelled to say, it is an awesome speed controller! It improved my driving and my lap times. I am thoroughly impressed by the vtc pro spec mkII. Kudos to the engineering team. Even down the straight, it isn't lacking in speed compared to Tekin, but it's much smoother in the infield. It's like having built in traction control. I'm truly loving it. Thank you Ian for keeping on me to try ORCA.

This is my sugestion for a dex410 with a 5.5

Motor Brushless 5.5 (Orca) set motor timing to zero
Timing :24
Turbo Delay ff
Turbo Timing ff
Turbo Interval ff
PWM :64k if esc hot after 1-1.5 min 32k
Initial Brake ff
Brake Frequency :1000k
Punch :6
FDR :20/87
Please advance (counterclockwise) your motor's physical timing

From what ive heard these cars build lots of heat due to low airflow. try this setting and temp the esc and motor after 1 to 1.5 minutes. A 5.5 in this car is usualy more than enough...most guys here are running 6.5 or 7.5 motors

So smooth. Car feels underpowered..but then you see its just as fast as everything else, its quite deceptive. Brake feels beautiful too. Great speedo
