Default 17.5 the one

I am new to the forum as well with team scream motors. Been reading a lot on the forum and it seems every body is more than happy with their motors. John is a busy man building all these motors,Was hoping his self or someone else could be of some help?IJust received my new motor and was hoping someone could help with rollout for a 185' high bite dirt oval?
17.5 end bell timing 45* 12.5 rotor with 4 line.
Will be for a direct drive Custom works Sprint. 2.65 foam tire and 120 spur gear. Rollout is around 2.35 with a different motor didn't know if it's the same with this motor?
Any help would be appreciated.
Also help with 200' paved oval with same motor. Timing gearing ect.

If you were a 2.35 with another motor you may want to drop a few pinions with this motor to be safe. With 2s and 45* timing the motor will produce way more RPM than the previous version TSR motor or other brand motors.

On smaller tracks (120'RL) guys are dropping 4 to 6 pinions to start and running 48 to 50* timing (on a motolyser, can timing may be slightly different depending on sensor boards).

When you drop pinions keep an eye on motor temps, make sure you have a fan on the motor, and look for max. temps in the 160* range. Ideally the motor should have .1 to .2 fade and 140/150* range running dirt oval. If it feels soft on the bottom end and temps are 120/130* add timing (go from 45* on can to 47 or 48*, approx. 1/2 a line). The timing will help off the corner speed.

With the 200' RL if the corners are open and flowing then you can run slightly less timing (back down to 45* on can or less) and add gear. The gear will give the top end. If the track is more of a paper clip style (tight pinching turns) you may want to stick with the slightly higher timing (48* or so on the can) and smaller pinion to have good off the corner speed.

curious...do your motors now resemble the actual timing instead of the 'TSR timing' on the can? i'm asking because i'm sure a majority of us, or at least I dont, have a motorlyser until MAYBE we get to the track.

The timing marks are much closer to actual timing now.

I was looking at the TSR website this morning. How can I tell if I order a motor if I'm getting one of the new motors? Also is the new motor available in 25.5?

13.5 17.5 and 21.5 will be new motors from here on out.

The 25.5 is still the same motor.

For all you clones running 1/12, here's the gearing and timing I ran at the Halloween classic this last weekend. Give it a try!!

17.5 the "1"- 39* timing, 95.1mm rollout, 4 line rotor shimmed center
13.5 the "1"- 36* timing, 82mm rollout , 4 line rotor shimmed center

Is that motolyser timing or end bell timing?

what is the difference between the 3 line rotor and the 4 line? as i just got a 17.5 " the 1" (not the 1.0) a few weeks ago.

The difference is the strength of the rotor. A 4 line rotor will be generally rated about 50 higher on a gause(sp) meter and will have an overall rating somewhere in the 1600s.

Thanks for the information.
Will be running motor in a couple weeks on the 200' track and will try the 48* timing and go from there.
