From what I've heard they are BUT there is a problem on Apple's end that is holding it up.

it will work but you may have to run a second cap(i would do it anyway) is it going in a 4wd SC.

hey guys,

I am going to be testing a 5.0T motor in my TC at my local track this weekend. So far I have been running a 10.5 with my RS Pro. Is there anything I need to do before hitting the track? I've read things such as putting 2 caps instead of 1 and putting a fan on the ESC but I've never had a problem with 1 cap and no fan when running a 10.5.

A second cap will help with esc temps, and it won't hurt anything while running spec motors either.

Make sure your esc setup is correct for the mod you're using. Check our website for a Team driver setup like Jason Moberly's and build from there.

20SMOKE,

It will be going on the Jammin SCRT10. Anyone have a pic of how it looks to run two caps.

Do you guys stack them up or side by side or what?

I'm running a new XRAY T3 with an RS Pro and a Redline 21.5 for practice while I get used to my first on-road car. For practicing on asphalt I need a recommendation for a spur + pinion combo. I have the stock 84T/48P spur installed at the moment but I can switch to a 64P spur (114T seems to be a good place to start). I want something that will give me a good feel for the car before I start racing it in Aug when our season starts.

Suggestions?

When people talk about rubber tire touring car they usually discuss gear ratios by talking about their final drive. FDR = (spur / pinion ) * internal ratio. Using the 48 pitch gears you specified you would be at a 3.325 which is too low (too big of a pinion). I would recommend you try to get to a 5.5 FDR and then alter your ratio from there. 5.5 will be wow, but should be safe.

You should also take a look at the tekin rs thread - I suspect you will find (use the search option) people posting other 21.5 setups either for touring car or vintage trans-am.

Ok, so I tried a 5.0 turn last Sunday. I used 30 timing with no turbo just like Jason Moberly's setup. I also used a slightly lower FDR than what I usually run for my fully boosted 10.5.

Although it had SCARY low end rip, I was disappointed with the top end speed. I would say that the top end was even a tick slower than my fully boosted 10.5 with v203 firmware. My lap times didn't come down much as it wasn't any faster on the straight (which is 200+ ft) while being so much harder to drive in the infield.

After a 6 minute run all of the leds on the ESC were blinking. The motor came off the track at 130 deg. I was using just one cap on the ESC with a fan just on the motor.

So what can I do to get faster? Try taller ratios? Turn the turbo on instead? How much can I expect the temps to come down if I use 2 caps instead?

Here's a vid of what the track is like.
