I have left packs sitting for 6 weeks with no problems. So I can't really say that cycling them every two weeks makes a difference.

As far as NiMH not having memory I'm not convinced that this is the case.

To prove if your method has any advantages you would have to take another pack and treat it in a different way.

Testing is very tricky and time consuming.

Hi Danny

Just wanted to let you know, i purchased some SMC packs locally in Sydney Australia, and ran them on the weekend for the first time. I was really impressed, i had only been using the old version sanyo previously. I qualified second, in touring Mod, but in the final i unfortunatley dumped on the last corner, and was pipped for third on the line by 9 tenths.

We were really racing hard in the final with fastest times nearly 4 tenths faster than in qualifying, so am not too concerned with the dump.

I am going to have to play with different winds to get the best overall mix.

I'm based in Brisbane and have not been able to find any HV's by any of the more well known matchers, SMC, Orion, etc. the only ones I can find are matched here in Aus by Hobby Xpress.

Where did you get your SMC's, were they team or racer cells & how much were they?

Cheers

Is it necessary to cycle the HV's and discharge them for storage to around 5.4 volts? I currently use 2000 sanyo nicads with my superbrain charger and an Indi 20 amp discharger that sets them to zero so I store them at zero with a gecko on them that drains it completely.

Besercoe: Thanks for the nice comments. If your HV's gave you plenty of power and you dumped you might want to drop the charge rate by one amp.

JohnA: We have an Australian Distributor called Scaled Adrenaline. The owner is Scott Hill.

vthondaboi: If you use your Hv's every week it's a good idea to bring them down to 5.4 volts. If you plan on storing them for a long period of time I would cycle them once every month just to be safe.

Visit our website for more detailed info on the HV's.

Danny,

I have a question for you about a cell that I damaged in a wreck last Saturday in my 1/12 scale Mod car. There is no voltage when I measure across the solder tabs, and there is voltage across each cell, except one of them. Is it possible to ressurect the dead cell, or should I give it a proper burial?

Thanks for your help.

If a cell reads zero it means it's an open circuit and there is nothing you can really do about it.

stik: No I don't believe that temp cutoff has any advantage over peak detection. I also believe that it's easier to make a mistake with temp cutoff.

Danny, mate just thought I would give your cells a wrap. I was racing with a 8 x 2 on the weekend with a 26mm rollout. Wow quick, I was using SMC HV's and did another two laps after the race to show off the run time I had. Anybody wanting to know how good these cells are, let me tell you these are better than I thought.

Coxy.

patelladragger: Try homer@tiltyard.com

He's a great guy to deal with.

Coxy: Thanks for the nice comments and I'm glad our packs worked to your expectations.

OK.. I think I may have a problem... I was charging my Sanyo 3000HV's last week at a race and peak charged the cells 2x.. well when peaking them the 2nd time I wasn't watching and the next thing I noticed I heard actuall popping sounds coming from the cells! Being relatively new to the hobby and having no idea what was going I disconnected the cells and let the car settle for a bit before running my main. The next day I went back to the track to do some laps and work on my car and the cells worked fine.. what was this popping and what did I do to the cells??? Did I kill their life by beating on them so badly?

How I charge/re-peaked the cells when I had the problem:

Turbo 35
Sanyo 3000HV (4 cell 1/12th scale config)
6 amps w/ a .05 peak detect

Thanks for any help/advice
