I run my packs down to just before the 20 amp discharge kicks off after racing. Within the next 2 days I put into in Novak smart tray and equilize just before re-charging. The packs are done within 10-15 mins. and are not even warm...then I go straight to the charger at 5.5 amps.
I've read you need to let them sit a couple hours after discharge (SMC), even off a smart tray....and I've read you dont have to let them sit. What does Slingshot recomend??
Thanks!
Kevin

SMC does not match EP cells. They are dealing with a more finicky product. Slingshot recommends discharging your cells just before you charge them and to always leave a charge left on your cells for storage.

Vern--What I do is pretty simple to remember and what I have found to work best:
For starters, I charge at 6AMPS all the time. I will do all my discharging and equalizing before I charge. If the pack is very warm from discharge, I will let it cool down for a bit before charging. Letting it sit for hours is only if I'm going to use the pack 2 times during the day (by the way, the second charge on a day often produces more power).
After running my heat, the pack gets stored just the way it is. This is usually plenty of storage for a pack that will be used within a week or 2. Then when it's time for running again I discharge, equalize, then charge. You can find a much more in depth explanation of this topic on our website at www.slingshotbatteries.com under the "Racer Tips" section.............
RaceGeek--It remains to be seen whether we will carry the 4600 cell. We have been VERY happy with the 4200 cells and will continue to carry them. We will also be bringing out a new cell next month (more on that later), but something to keep in mind is that we are really about as far as we can go with the current configurations of these cells. After all, we all know what happened when IB pushed the envelope just a little too far, KABOOM....................
I'll add another little something I found about these cells...
They respond well to sitting for months
I have 3 4cell packs from last winter, that went away with a FULL CHARGE then sat since April...I pulled them out on Friday to give them a cycle, and they woke up after only 2 charges And showing VERY little voltage/mah loss from sitting - wooohooo!!
Now talk about some durable cells
Bottomline, Slingshots EP4200 kick butt

Hodapp, you drinking, err, I mean racing at Cleveland this year?
Keith, ygm....
LOL.....I only drink water and milk these days. I hung up the beer bong a couple years ago.
I will not be attending any carpet races. That form of racing requires full dedication to it to be competitive. I will be racing off road from now on and maybe hit the occasional asphalt touring car race.
