Was at the track , where I overheard some interesting conversation.
It goes like this:
'With the revival of EP offroad, will we see a decline in EP touring and eventual death?? Rising cost of Touring is also a factor?? Jus like it was during the 90s?? "
Any Old bird to relate the story of wat happen to Touring during the 90s when it was dead??
Skali.. If I buy a new EP Touring and in matter of months, Touring is dead den all the money down the drain?? Haha
Maybe closed series races with closed tires, motor, battery will help cut costs. Bring the game down to the level where tuning, setting and driving win races, not big bucks. ... Applies to any form of racing. Not sure whether it is economically sustainable... Make less from expensive products but benefit from having a larger pool of customers? i really dunno.
At first ppl will despise closed items, cos they have invested in $$ stuff. After a while things may improve. Afterall, I'm sure many will agree that it was during the period when stock 23t racing(kawada/yokomo motors remember?) improved the local driving standards. Level the playing field.
Some like R/C for the fact that it has hi-tech stuff(i love em too). But some just wanna race, competitively, no one races with the intention to lose. High cost turns them off, and turns beginners off. Students have no money, adults have family to support. Many outsiders have the impression that R/C is a rich man's hobby.
SO, IS IT??? Sad fact....
What happened before may happen again, if no one does anything about it. EP Touring should not die anytime soon, no worry. Still waiting for a World Champ to be born.

Sorry ! ....wasn't aware that TC died. .....it started in the mid eighties (With the TA01/ TA02 chassis I think) I've been racing in the Tamiya Ngee Ann city races, OLD Marine Parade series and Hong Kah CC Kawada series.
R/C cars has been a on/off affair for me (New Job = off, Settled down with new job = on, New baby = off, baby reach 2 years old =on) .....but everytime I resurface, TC is still there abeit with new improvements i.e: Shaft vs belts, V2 motors.
I think the issue is not $$, but more important is the "kaki", and this doesn't applies to just the begineers but the seasoned player as well ! I lost count how many times I've stopped cos my racing buddies gave up only to start again when prodded by new buddies.
Lets face it, if you're a begineer and alone, chances are you'll give up after a couple of weeks if all the "experts" and "old bird" ignore you. But if one of them is willing to help and guide you, it just make you wanna do better.
The $$ factor is not relevant as I see lots of begineers with equipment costing more $$ than what I have !!!
I think this hobby is mostly about being a member and being able to click, I see most of the begineers who stay are those that started as a group, matured and stood on their own as experts. (Of course those with supporting Fathers/Uncles are a different catagory. )
...sorry for rambling on and on .....just my 2 cents !

Totally agree. Friendship is what gives the hobby more fun and depth.
