yeah, this was during the Tai Sing changeover and was too lazy
to build so I bought an RTR in Aug/04. .. and an SS last mth for "for spares".

Did my diffs using Kyosho crosspins, HPI gears & Tamiya moly grease.

The Kyosho pins wore out very quickly! Metal is very soft...

My latest rebuild was to use the stock HPI pins after filing a
slot into the middle to allow them to cross. Why not, as got
LOTS of those pins from all the gear bags I've bought to date.

The HPI pins are showing less wear, so far so good.

Default Cross pins on the bevel gears

Not too sure it would help, according to winnie there's ppl using hobao's cross pins. I too, think that HoBao's dominator's cross pins would work. Has anyone tried it on their savage's bevel gears?

Will soon find out. Fixing up with Hobao cross pins.

UPDATE: Hobao pins are the same length as the HPI ones. Diameter very slightly smaller. Don't think it will be an issue. The Hobao gears suck tho.

Yeah got it already on Wed. About 3/4 done at the moment. Did the spider ger mod with Hobao cross pins. Used 30000WT in front and 10000WT for the rear. So far so good, haven't screwed up anything yet. How about you? How's the running in going? The S25 engine is really tight. I sprayed some after-run oil in to let it sit till I get it running. I am very nervous when it comes to running in engines.

Funny thing tho, I got a Bronco bodyshell. Did you get also?

If you have time, I suggest you:

1) pull the head & backplate off, pull out the sleeve

2) check for metal filings inside engine, clean them if there is

3) reassemble using loctite for the backplate; head no need. (Also silicone sealant if you're anal about air leaks.)

I ripped my runner RTR apart before I ran it & wasn't impressed to find some some metal filings inside the engine. Lucky I opened it!

Haven't had time to open up the SS's engine yet.

SS kit available with GT1 (stock truck), Bronco and Camaro sportscar shells.

If its a factory sealed kit (ie no "switcharoo"), HPI would have applied a sticker to the box side for Bronco & Camaro.

Hey WC thanks for the pointer. One thing tho, I'm anal about opening up my engine up to the sleeve. The backplate is fine. I'll do that and locktite too.

Finished it early this morning. I got one thing to say. The thing is @%%#^ awsome. I drop tested it from like 4 - 5m and the suspension never bottomed out once. I filled the shocks with 30 WT oil. Much better than the stock 10WT oil.

However, some parts were a pain to assemble eg shock bolt and trying to check the gear mesh. Will run in as much as I can this afternoon.

Civiclized esi, did you follow the break in procedure from the engine manual or did something else?
