Default 1/8 scale off-road Electrics

There's plenty of threads in the offroad electric section regarding the rise of 1/8 electrics overseas. So I was thinking of do one for singapore side too. Hope more people can join.

Please refrain from flaming even if you don't agree on certain things.

My Caster EX1. To be fitted with 2x5000mah lipos, 2045kv brushless, etc

Anyone else interested in getting a 1/8 electric or already own one? Do post here and share.

hiya Adric,

i'm also keen on epfying a buggy, and am thinking of one of my old mbx5s... i've never had a good experience with the caster brand(parts failure is super high) but the conversion looks good.

see ya!

Shalom and God Bless!

Hi Alexander. What do u mean by parts failure is super high? i.e No parts support? Anyway, if u got intention to convert yr MBX, do it. Try it for the experience. don't like then change back to nitro lor.

hiya Adric,

the materials caster uses for certain parts are quite bad, either that or the machining is no good, some examples:
-diff cases failure (plastic too soft)
-diff gears failure (metal too soft, also not machined properly)
-diff outdrives have their drive pin holes machined out of concentricity)
-alu shock towers bend easily... i mean REALLY easily!
-axle drive pins are machined out of concentricity, drive hexes do not fit properly
-turnbuckles are machined with same side screw thread (i know, why turnbuckles then?)
-ball links are super tight, like made to wrong specs tight
all in all, it was a nightmare buggy. the rest of the buggy was ok. arms, gearboxes...

i read that caster is still getting their team drivers to use other brand diff cases(mugen, if ima not wrong) and diff gears.

oh well... it's a shelf queen now, no intentions of EVER getting it to work.

good luck on yours though!

it WAS a while ago, when caster first came on the scene. hopefully, their QA has improved dramatically. i was impressed with the lightness of it's transmission design and gear ratio. made for a really zippy buggy. but the materials, oh woe is me.

there are many other brands touting EP versions of their buggies, AE, Losi, Piktor, Ishima to name a few. I'm sure they work as well. just my personal experience with caster is a bit soured, spent more time wrenching then racing, so i'm not keen on a repeat.

at the moment though, i'm wondering if i should procure one of the many mugen and kyosho truggies peeps are offloading on the net, in anticipation of a new kyosho and mugen truggy based on the new stuff. convert it to EP to bishy bash with.

cost of batts are high!

everything else is within reason.
