If anyone has any questions about gearing or any questions on the Super Electric RS4's a few us may be able to help. We run a full division of them in The ESLROC Silver Cup Series and we have figured out the gearing relative to thermal shut down occurances. Please post away if you have questions about this combination of car and speed control/motor.

Here is an email recieved from Novak....

You will need to gear the larger sedans lower. Probably around 9.5- 10.5 starting. Like a offroad Buggy as the tires are similar size. Smaller Pinion will make the Final Gear number bigger(this is gearing "lower). This puts less load on the motor and ESC and will keep the ESC cooler. You want to gear based on the Temp of the ESC. It should work normally around 160-170F.

Here is how my Super "E" is set-up for a high grip smooth track.

48 pitch gear set - 87 tooth Spur & 27 tooth Pinion
Blue 25mm front springs
Bright Yellow 25mm rear springs
Purple rear sway bar only
Front shock oil is 60 weight
Rear shock oil is 40 weight
Tires combinations I use are;
HPI 27R's Front Hard inserts
HPI 27R's Rear Soft inserts
HPI 27R's Front/Rear Hard inserts
HPI 33R's Front Hard inserts
HPI 33R's Rear Soft inserts
HPI 33R's Front/Rear Soft inserts
Ride height after set-up and tweak guage is 6.5mm

The local hobby shops or some have found on ebay for around $150.00. They retail for around $189.99 and Brushless system retails for $229.99. Lou at Broadway Hobbies can order fo you as well....Mr. Bio-man. I know your tricks Dewey!!

Call me crazy, but what speeds are you looking at with the cars? Around 10th scale, a little faster, slower? Seems like the added weight would take a little away, but the opportunity to have more cells might combat this to neutral.

They are really quick.......14.675 lap times on a 465' track. Just as good as a 19turn stock TC3. The car race ready only weighs about 4lbs 18ounces. The 3300mah batteries & Novak Brushless system provides plenty of power for the size of car it is.

Look what you started Mr Cup O' NOODLE a few weeks ago you were the only one at the track that had one then you let Batman try yours now he has one then he let Radio drive his now he has one . Then this past weekend down at Fantasy World Chris raced Batmans now he has the bug(I think) and then there's me. Who bought one not knowing what it would be like and lets say I love it . The only problem I had was I thermaled once but I was trying out a little higher gearing and didn't thermal till after I crossed the finish line.

well i think the car isnt that much heavier than a tenth scale.i know for sure it handles really well.i think you could use all different types of setups and its gonna handle well.once i drove the car i was hooked.i love the brushless because it is almost maintenance free.the only trick is getting the gearing right so you dont thermal(auto shut off).i think if you position the esc the right way and you use a heatsink on the motor and gear it right you will be just fine.upgrades for the car are few but if you get them it will be an awsome car.alot of the super nitro stuff will fit on the super electric.shocks,springs,tires,bodies,hubs,knuckles ,cvd's,and a few others will work.i think once anybody drives one youll be hooked

Good luck to you guys and your Super "E" series..

I remember when i first got my Super Nitro and accustomed to setting it up.. had lots of fun and since then i'd always wished an electric counterpart would come... then it did , but didn't really get popular in the 'states' ..

I wish those would pick up around these parts...

maybe now i will make a better effort to track one down..

time to make a few phone calls..

just out of curiosity, how many cells do you all run... and how do they perform with a 19t or mild mod.. have you all tried any 'brushed' motors?

i havent tried any brushed motors yet but i just might.we run the ss5800 and its pretty quick.

Silver Cup burnt up 3 brushed motors trying to get the gearing right went by what HPI recommends to to and that didn't work. I know with the brushed motors his esc was getting extremely hot.
So he went to the brushless system and hasn't had that much of a problem getting the gearing right.

I did try brushed motors and it seemed to burn em' all up. The gearing is so temperature sensitive on these motors more so than a regular 1/10th scale touring car. The Brushless is definitely the way to go.
