Hello All,
Weird one for you guys. I recently put together a Tamiya TT02 Carrera that will spend 99% of its time on unprepared tarmac. I bought an extra set of wheels so as not to ding up the painted Fuch's that I spent a bunch of time on and currently I have the Gravity USGT tires on them as the reviews were pretty good for both bashing and tire wear. With that said the tires are super low profile and look kind of funny on a car from the early '70's....some of that might be because I am running a 24MM tire on 26MM wheels. So, does anyone have any recommendations on a tire which sports a bit more side wall height that also offers decent performance on unprepared surfaces and has some durability?

Yes.....function seems to be following form a bit in this application.

The Ride tires are good. But yes they are smaller then standard TC tires. I've been using Sweep tires on a number of different TC. On all kinds of pavement, none are prepared. Work good on most.

Tamiya tires are taller, but they cost a bit more. The rubber, inserts and rims will set you back about $50-$60.

The Volante ETS tyres are pretty large, around 65mm I think. The wheel and tyre are both durable, and grip is decent.

Tamiya Super Grip Radial #53214 for 26mm rims.

Extremely good grip and high profile.

And for 30mm rims: #53231

For both tires you have to buy seperate inserts: 26mm #53113 or 53156 and for 30mm #53230.

The black part on the rim blends in with the tire and makes it look like a 60 series tire instead of low profile.

I have not used them, but the pics I've seen of them on cars look pretty good. There are other sources for these, mostly places that sell drift stuff IIRC.

HPI X Patterns have a higher sidewall. They are also very good performers on un-prep'd pavement.

Thanks for all the info guys. So the chrome parts of the HPI wheels did not last long, I have 4 packs through the car with these wheels on them and they are all chipped...oh well, I should have expected that.Once these tires are done I will try either the X-Patterns or the Tamiya's as they have some tread.
