This is awesome! Thanks!

I googled tb04 ifs and got a hit. Correct?

Re tamiyas chassis prefex codes... I am confused lol
TB vs TT vs TA... what's the difference? Is one supposed to be better than the other?
is it
TB = East/West motor + Shaft drive
TT = North/South motor + Shaft drive
TA = East/West motor + Belt drive (even though my TA02 is shaft driven...)
TB Evo 6 = Is that supposed to be TB06?

Or is there something I am missing?

TA is the "mainstream" touring car. It's currently used for their belt drive tub chassis range, even though the first (TA01/TA02) was shaft drive. They often have Pro/TRF versions that convert the tub to dual deck plates, but not always.

TB is the competitive shaft drive range, essentially Tamiyas answer to the Associated TC3 from back in the day. The TB01-TB04 are more mainstream versions (tub chassis) and the TB Evo series is more of a TRF variant (TB Evo through to Evo 6). The perpendicular motor mounting was new in the TB04/Evo 6 models, prior to that they were inline.

TT is the basic, cheap entry level chassis. They also had a TL model that had a similar purpose.

And then there's the full on TRF series.

thanks for that...

So I was just comparing chassis sizes on 'TamiyaBase':
787B #58102 (original)
787B #58357 (re-release)
R91CP #58109
TB-04 PRO #84339
TB-04 #58598

Q1: Regarding width, what is the largest wheel offset you can easily buy? Contemplating making my own swing arms.

Q2: Would it be better for me to go with the Pro or standard version and get hop-ups separately?

Q3: Where's the best place to order Tamiya kits? I can see a standard tb04 on ebay for $225 + $40 postage. Is this good or can I do better?

Cheers

... good mother of...

...

Gorgeous!!! $? lol

Would there be any R88C's out there in 1/12th scale? If so, I'd be sold.

However all of my gear is set up for 1/10th. A butt tonne of 540 motors and 6 cell sticks + 2 cell lipos. never mucked around with foam tyres though.

Google, Serpent 977e andARC R8.0e

They use 2x2S batteries, Hobby King look to have cheap motor and ESC for them. Foams aren't really anymore expensive than rubber tyres from what I've been told.

oh 1/8th scale... of course.

yeah... I don't think I could do those frames any justice. I think I should leave that one to the pros for now. ^^;

Insanely gorgeous though!

on the tb04 the rear shock tower is too tall as well, the body will not fit, and the wheel base is too short, you have to make it longer, highest offset wheels I found are +11 from MST. So far the best Tamiya 4wd chassis to mount these tops is the f201, really straight forward install.

It will be simpler to choose a body similar in shape, then paint it to look like the Nissan.
The Colt 962C is made to fit touring cars, the front will clear most shock towers and the rear of the body can be easily modified to give you the separate wing. http://www.rcmart.com/colt-m1141-200...cPath=438_1319

mcallister make several Daytona prototype bodies made for touring cars, but likely to be further away from what you want. http://mcallisterracing.com/index_files/Page592.htm

The best looking option would be the Cross Toyota 88CV, but will need the front and maybe also the rear shock mounts replacing. http://www.rcmart.com/cross-cfp72m-b...3-p-27720.html

Here is what you are looking for!
220mm track width with these foams and lola style bodies. It will also accommodate any wheel with 12mm hexes.

FWIW... I'm planning on running my Tamiya 911 GT1 98 LM Winner body on a TA06 because of IFS and wheelbase.

I also have a vintage HPI Jaguar XJR-15, I'm planning to run it on a Sakura/3Racing FGX with custom body mounts.

I've cut two Tamiya TB03 chassis and glued them together to make a 280 mm wheelbase touring car, and then a Tamiya Nissan R91CP body will fit if you go IFS in the front and reverse the rear damper stay to run the shocks in front of the rear arms.

How does the width and wheelbase of that 98 gt1 compare? I used to have the tamiya toyota gt1 body but never would have thought of fitting it on a tc back in the day because all the tcs has high f shock towers. Sold that beauty a while back. Post up some pics somewhere if you can.
