HPI made one in the late '90s for their RS4 Pro 2/Mini/Sport 2/Rally etc.

A 2sp with electric is wasted unless the car is heavy, as electric motors have wider powerbands than Nitro engines, which only really give good power high up the rev-range.

#A297 2 Speed Transmission (For RS4 Sport/Pro)
(NOTE: if you have the 2 belt conversion for the original RS4, only this 2 speed transmission will work.) (Higher second gear allows for faster top speed. Adjustable shift point.) $69.00
From the HPI website.

Pic of the version for the HPI Mini (came with different sized spur gears because the Mini had smaller tyres).

1fastdude:

Hi,

Ok im really going to date myself here. Yokomo's first sedan (YR4) came with a 2 speed. it was mounted on the layshaft ajusted like a gas one does. it was a pain to get it set up.......but you could run with mods of that time when you did. the next time you see Chuck L. ask him about it, (hopefully at the Novak race).

Thanks

Some creative and brave RC companies will make lightweight 2 speed someday.
