Id have to say the TA-05 hands down, a local guy at my club runs one, very limited amount of hop ups and he was all over a T2 driven by a pretty decent driver recently, and has been most of the time since he got the car.

Has he raced a ta02r? or just the TA05? was the TA05 running a xenon chassis? kind of want to know how the 2 cars are head to head In TCS trim .

He hasnt raced a TB02 i dont think no. The car is running a standard chassis as far as i know, but he is using TRF shocks, and possibly carbon fiber shock towers. Apart from that im sure its totally standard. At our last meeting, if he hadnt had a bad start, i think would have beaten the lad with the T2, seen as he was all over him like a rash. And the lad running the T2 is no slouch. Hope this helps ya

Well it sort of helps i guess . just more wondering if the guy with the TA05 could run as well with the TB02R . but thats for the info any little bit is helpfull.

I have both, the TA-05 is easier and faster a car to drive, plus you don't have to go down the route of .6 module pinions either.

TA05 is much easier to setup for me... have been competitive with it since it's release and it can handle the competition. I don't change much on my setups and the TA05 is pretty consistent on different track surfaces...

Had the TB02 since it's release as well but it took a while to get everything set. However, when done right, it can keep up with high end models as well. I remember in 2004 when we went to the Japan TCS Worlds and ran practice laps at one of the biggest Tamiya track facilities there. The Tamiya World Champion (Gunther of Europe) at that time ran a 415 with a 23t motor, and I pulled out my TB02 (TCS GT2/3 spec) with a slightly faster 19t motor (although my gearing was limited and I think was stuck at 6.5fdr and he was around 6.0). Considering I was practicing with a world champ with a 415, I think the TB02 proved to be a capable car. The 23t vs. 19t wasn't an issue because the gearing made the cars run exactly the same in the straight line. The thing that surprised me was that the TB02 proved itself in the corners as well and kept up with the 415 and I was even able to attempt some suicide passes. I have videos of us running and hopefully one of this days I am able to share them here...

It would have been interesting if the TA05 was already available then...

let me say this I love the TB02 for the silver can class. I seems to have so much more punch.
But I would buy the TA05 over the TB02R fo so many reasons. Manyly that the TB02 is nearing the end of it's life cycle. I don't think there will be much more released for it.
Where as the TA05 is still getting new parts and Hop ups to improve it. and will probably will for a while.
Like mentioned above the gearing is a limitation on the TB02.

im i will be asked.. if out of the box i will go for Tb-02R coz it has much good parts included out of the box..

but if the car are in fully hopped up.. i will go for ta05.... hope this helps..

and the ta05 is much newer technology...

I have a tbo2 that has all the options, very close to a tbo2r. and raced at the last TCS Nationals at Tamiya HQ. The TA05 had just come out so most racers, except for the Tamiya employees, had box stock TA05's. They were about .5 second faster a lap than the tbo2's. By the end of the race that ads up to being lapped!!

This is only what I saw there, and have no direct evidence that they were that much faster. but I have a strong feeling that they were faster!!!

now if tamiya released a carbon chassis for the TB-02 like they did for the TA05.... i think the TB-02 would be very fast

TA05 for me after my car kept up with a 415MSX with a stock motor.

I have both. Out of the box the tao5 is a good car. The tbo2r needs a lot of setup but it can be as good as a tao5 plus you get the lw suspension, trf shocks which you can use for a tao5 later. My tao5 is my main car(parts are really cheap) and tbo2r for backup. They're both heavy btw.
