Novak SS on the "Sports" mode feels more powerful than a brushed stock motor setup... so if your competitors knew what they were up against, they'd ban any SS from racing Stock.

On the "Unlimited" mode, I think it'll keep up with a 10 or 11 turn
motor, but will be behind the pace if everybody's running 8 or 9s.

Torque is VERY powerful on the SS, you'll outdrag any Stocker.
I have mine geared to about what a Monster Pro needs... a bit
lower than the CopperHead P2K. But I need to test gearing up
a bit more... lotsa torque going to waste there!!

Running on a pretty large track...

Mabuchi 540: 71/38 x 2.6

P2k: 71/34 x 2.6

Monster: 71/31 x 2.6

Novak: 71/30 x 2.6
(has the legs to probably go 31, 32 or 33 even)

I use the Novak in my Evo, and it goes like a rocket. In the Sportmans profile, the RPM is limited to 24000, but it has a boatload of torque. I think i geared it at around 6.9 and it had an ever so slightly better top end, but heaps more torque than any stocker.

With the brushless, i also tend to use a Diff, or put ABS on the brakes, because it can get a bit roudy with the One-way due to the hard braking.

Default crunch Crunch CRUNCH

Felt like there was something crunching in the drivetrain... so time for a pulldown.

Opened front gearbox... amazed, 1-way's gear still looks good.
Only 2 teeth slightly topped, pretty bloody good considering its
survived about 60-70 packs (40 of those with Novak SS power)
and its taken a few smacks hard enough to launch it airborne.

Nup, so its not the front causing the crunching.

Opened up rear GB... and hey, what's this?!
.... little metal wires fall out.

Did someone try SABOTAGE me by putting staplers into my gears?!!!

No; turns out the rear bearing had shed its shield, and the
retention clip had worked its way around the bevel pinion
and had totally gotten chewed by the gears into 5 pieces!

Diff & bevel gears were looking a little shotblasted, but
surprisingly they didn't cause any more drag as from new.
Just stuck them back in with naked bearing... rolls fine again.

I was gunna save the wire bits of a photoshoot... but when me
tried to clean them up first with a shot of motorspray ... drats,
can't bloody find the things anymore. Sorry folks.

Talking about Jap bearings, I rescued some fantastic-quality
1260s out of the old TA03 (think they costed a bomb back then!).

Branded... "SKF 126Z".

Metal shielded... but there's no retaining clip for the shields.
It is like totally one full ring, like an antique hubcap.

Anyone know how to open these??

Have seen SKF's 1150 bearings before... but they were
labelled as "instrument quality" and aksing $20 *each*!

Yea, ok... I'll take 24pcs for my TL01...

Any clues on how to open them?

I spent a while prying about with the hobby knife... but didn't
wanna put too much force & destroying them.

After various hard hits...the metal shield from the 8x12 bearing can work its way loose and eventually end up in the drive train. Sometimes it acts as a shim creating a crunchy feel. I've given up on the metal shielded bearings and went with rubber sealed. No more problems.
