Traxxas Slash. After seeing the punishment that kids at my local track put their Slashes through, I wouldn't buy anything else. One thing about the Slash is that the body covers the wheels which help keep suspension arms from being ripped off when they clip something.

I have a 5 year old son myself who's had several RC cars since he was 2+ (Grasshopper, Duratrax Evader ST, Associated RC10T) and nothing stands up to a slash.

My nephews love my axial wraith. LOVE it ... its slow , they can walk behind it , it crawls over a lot of stuff they drive into , it doesn't get stuck , and it doesn't break. We all take turns trying to make it though a course we make up on the fly ...

I got my 5 year old son a traxxas telluride last year and he loves it!! Many people over look this vehicle but it works out perfect for him!! Many things drew my attention to it for one it's 4wd which is a must for a 5 year old "grass" Second thing I liked is the esc has a training mode which gives you 50% power until they get the feel for the truck. Next bonus is that I own a summit and wanted something he could follow me around with trailing and very suprising it can hold its own in that aspect as well, check out some YouTube vids of it if you don't believe me!! Brushed motor so it's not crazy fast but if you put a 2s lipo in it I bet it gets close to 30 and being waterproof is a bonus as well!! It's based off the stampede so if he or she gets sick of it I'm pretty sure it can get converted to a stampede fairly easily and they have a new truck!! Good luck with your decision and I hope this helps. Another note if you would like to get him or her racing early don't over look the losi mini 8ight it's a great little buggy for the price. It's pretty funny watching such a small little car make sc trucks look silly on a track!!

Slash is probably the best. My nephew drives a AE stadium truck. Its ok, but he breaks a bunch or steering parts. But there cheap and an easy fix

Slash. With the addition of a few upgrades, it can be made almost indestructible. A newbie I know decided to get into the hobby with an ECX Torment. He came to the track with us one day and ran Novice. Broke the truck every heat! Worst servo I've ever seen, multiple bearing failures, broken bearing carriers, broken drive shaft. It came with a Spektrum radio and a decent brushless system, so he bought a Slash roller and a Traxxas LCG kit and swapped the electronics, minus servo, into it. Trouble free now
