I'm looking for a good quality pit light. Which do you recommend?


I've tried Hudy, but looking for something more durable.

Ott lights were the bomb in the past. Not cheep, but their thing is good light. There are other knock off out there that are cheaper. I do not own this but would look at it if I needed light in my pit.

I like the Ottlite, but can't find one in East Asia or someone who's willing to ship to East Asia.

I got the ("old") hobbyking one. Here is a copy-paste of my review on their site:

" The battery came unplugged and I had to take the lamp apart to plug it. In the process I moved the battery as far as I could towards the circuit board, to help with the balance of the lamp. No biggie but it's annoying to void the warranty of a product right out of the box. The light is very bright and if you use a glass pitboard (as I do), the reflection could actually become quite a nuisance. A dimmer would have been useful. It would also have helped with the duration of use over one charge. Contrary to others here I have been a bit disappointed in that area, with the lamp being empty after approx. 6 hours of use. That means you can't go through the race day on a single charge, unless you turn it off as soon as you leave your table, which would be quite a hassle IMHO. Overall product works as described, but I'm not overly impressed."

Their new motion-sensored lamp seems to address all of the aforementioned issues, might be worth a try... HTH.

A couple years ago I found this one from Lowe's for $20. It's all LED, so it stays cool to touch but provides a lot of useful light. Added bonus is its flexible and light can be directed easily. Has to be plugged into AC though, but I always bring a 4 port AC extension cord/reel to plug my power supply and light into.
This is the light, has a nice clamp feature to hold it in place. I have a pit shelf and it clamps to side of shelf unit out of the way.

I use this on my RC workbench. I like the different hue's you can alternate and brightness. Especially when I'm doing decals I can't see very well when cutting thin white pin stripes unless I use the redish hue similar to incandescent bulbs.

I like the Team Powers light coz it uses 12V DC. Most of our tracks are public tracks without AC supply.

It uses 4 or 8 AA batteries. Can not plug into 12V DC.


With 8 AA rechargeable (2000mah) cells, the lantern lasts 2 nights in a roll and still very bright.



What I like about it is: compact, build quality is good and bright.

Down side is it's a little too short. You'll have to place it on a parts box in order to light up the whole working space.

Yeah, that Hudy one sucks. Mine is possessed. Loves to flicker even when it's off and sometimes the bottom led will stay on for days on end and only decide to shut off whenever it wants. I'm thinking on trying that Amazon lamp next.

Muchmore here. Older style, but still 7.6-12V LED.

Can't complain, works well. Compact. Good bright light.

Muchmore lights are good, probably the best (in my area). But how durable are the joints? Do you have to adjust tension regularly?

I've had my Muchmore lite for a few years. Pretty durable. Joints need occasional tensioning, but not very often.
