Associated FT TC4 vs. HPI Pro 4???

well, i would be buying the Pro 4 regular edition, not the Hara. this is just because the regular version is sooo cheap, much cheaper than it used to be. plus, it has all the features i really need to be competitive in club racing. the hara edition has some things i dont need. if i was going to spend that much money i would get a Tamiya TB Evo IV!! 
anyways, compare the FT TC4 and the regular Pro 4.

Like the article says, you can't go wrong with either car. I just finished building a FTTC4 and it went together well. I have not had a chance to run it yet as work is quite time consuming. A good idea is to see how hard it is to get parts. It sounds petty, but I have been driving a Yokomo BD and getting parts is hard sometimes.

They mean locally. Nothing sucks worse than breaking and not being able to go buy the part and fix it in time for the main.

well, what really sucks is my LHS owner. he is never open on sundays or mondays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 
so basically, whenever we have a club race literally in front of his store, he refuses to open because he wants to race. however, he is definately not short on employees!!!!
but i also have another LHS, but i dont race near it so that kinda stinks. it's a Hobbytown USA, which i think is drastically overpriced, so i only buy things from them when i urgently need them.

Sounds like quite a dilema on your hands. Choosing between two good cars is like trying to choose a playboy playmate of the year, you really can't make a bad choice. I am partial to Ae only because I have raced their offroad cars before and raced a tc3 like three times a couple years ago and loved it. I also like this FTTC4 a lot so far. Guess it does just come down to a gut feeling. Either way you will be happy.

I think with either car, you won't be disappointed. I had a TC3 before and it was easy to work on and had a lot of adjustments to work with. I had an HPI Pro 2 and now have a Pro 4. I love the Pro 4 especially for the price. Performance wise, I think they're comparable. Below is my take on what would be the deciding factors.
Factory Team TC4:
Roughly $70 more than a Pro 4, but parts should be readily available at a lower cost than the Pro 4 parts. However, what you get with the TC4, it is still a great deal.
HPI Pro 4:
Heck of a deal for around $265.00. Parts not too difficult to get, but not as readily available as Associated parts. If you're looking at value, can't beat the Pro 4. The car performs really well especially considering its price.

i think i am leaning toward the Pro 4 now. i dont particularly like the TC4's battery hold down method, still using "old-fashioned" tape. however, i have an NTC3 with a spring kit, so i was hoping to use the same spring for the TC4. do the stock springs on the Pro 4 seem to be pretty good for asphalt racing?

FYI - the associated springs will fit the pro4.
