Chassis protector
Hi All
I have just purchased a new FK05 and had my first drive.
The one thing that concerns me is wearing the bottom chassis. I am told that you can buy protective material to decrease this.
Anybody know where I can get some. I tried clear contact but it wears VERY fast.
thanks
Glenn

Two options that I know of... 1) Team Associated makes a chassis film that is suppose to be pretty good. 2) Do a search on this forum for Chassis protector. A guy a while back was offering a very cool service in which he would coat your entire chassis with something that not only made it shine but kept it from scratching. Very cool indeed and something I will do pretty soon.

The Associated chassis protector is very good. I use one when running on asphalt. Doing so, I can usually run a lower ride height without worrying about shaving off half the chassis by the end of the day.

The chassis protector is good stuff, nice and thick but its a pain to cut around. Not so bad when your just doing around the edges but if you ever want to get a screw out after I bought another underbody for my Mi2 and cut up the undertray to make a chassis protector, fully cutout around the cells and motor for cooling and its held on by 6 screws so should you need to take it off you can with relative ease. Does add a little bit more weight to the car tho, about 27g if memory serves.

i use the ff. 3M products...
safety walk tub & shower tread (#7641NA) - transparent and flexible tape, easy to cut and trim on the chassis.
or
safety walk indoor/outdoor tread (#7647NA) - gray colored and a bit thicker, not as easy to trim but i found that this lasts a bit longer than the one above
in our local hardwayre, about $12+ per roll but will fit several cars (1 roll = 2" wide x 5 yards long)

Hi everyone. Here's what I did on the chassis of my pro4 to protect it from scratches and damages...
...I used 3M anti-slip (Safety-Walk). It already has adhesive so all you have to do is cut the rubber matt to shape your chassis. The 3M is thin so cutting and shaping it with an Xacto knife would be best. Try to leave holes for the screws so you won't have to peel the thing off everytime you have to unscrew. It's available at hardware shops or visit this link:

Mi2 = Schumacher Mi2 touring car. The undertray is of a decent size so it should cover quite a few cars out there, havent tried it so dont just take my word for it Dont know anyone that sells lexan sheets to do the job so an underbody/tray of some kind is the only option left

Where would be the best place to get a sheet of lexan, any thickness? I think it wuold be fairly easy to make a lexan chassis protector.
I found some things here: US Plastics but I dont know what would be the best option. I'm thinking something like the plastic used on monster truck bodies, i think they're like .060" plastic. That type of plastic, but around .020-.030" were i could make holes for the screws on the underside of chassis and also holes so i could mount it to the chassis somehow. I just want something that I can use for racing asphalt every once in a while, and take it off for carpet without having to deal with an adhesive.

James, not to knock RCOld man, but I tried diligently to get a hold of him a few weeks ago and he was getting engaged or something. He's friends with Bob Barry and I even tried to get Bob on his case for me, but still hadn't heard from him. Just letting people know so they don't go stripping down their chassis only to not get a reply.

I have an AE chassis protective sheet on my 2.5mm chassis, and I am about to get another for my 2mm chassis. They are nice and thick, and stick very, very well. They are almost as adhesive as CA glue. I paid around $9.20 including tax, and it was the best investment ever. Especially if you may sell the car, no one likes scratches on the chassis.

How thick and noticable is it? Does it look all "sticky" after you pull it off?
