Hi,

I'm currently looking for a new car to race the local 17.5 Blinky class. Until now i drove a Schumacher Mi5 (non Evo) but after four nine to five days on a Carpet track I gave up as I just wasn't able to get the Setup right. I ended up using my old Xray T2R which felt immediately mutch better.

Some of the experienced drivers told me that the Mi5 is just not made for 17.5 and Carpet tracks, and it would be wise to use another car for a beginner, like me.

So im now searching for the car that is made for 17.5 Blinky. I also would like to use Shorty Lipos as they are cheaper, lighter and totally enough for our 8 minutes races.

What cars do you think should be considered in my case, and why?

There are many threads that will cover all the basics you are asking about already. But anyhow, there is no car "made" for 17.5 blinky. If anything, cars are made for MOD. I'd search through the various "which car" threads and soak in all the info you can. But here are the (ever-repeated) basics:

What do the locals run?

What is your budget?

Are you ok with used (and if you are I recommend Xray) ?

and so on..... btw shorty packs are not the "norm" , and they really don't make cars purely based around them. It is really up to you to make it work. I'd stay with standard packs for the higher capacity, more consistent lap times as the clock runs on.

And no, despite what Bert will inevitably tell you, don't rush out and get a TC4.

I don't own an Mi5 but the original one (not evo) I'm told is more of a low traction asphalt car. Really flexible chassis and would not be ideal for carpet. The Evo was supposed to address this for higher traction surfaces and has a stiffer chassis.

I've seen the Mi5 (regular and Evo) be competitive in both mod and 17.5 blinky at my local outdoor asphalt track.

We've started up with a couple of Tamiya's (417v5 and 418), and although there have been much talk about X-ray and durability, we have only broken c-hubs.

And the cars have take a fair amount of beeting.

Other newbies at our club are running X-ray's T4 14 and 15, and they are also breaking parts. There are one guy who have broken his lower deck twice on his T4'15.

I'm not the person to say that X-ray is not as durable as its reputation, just that a Tamiya seems to do an OK job of taking some beating.
