Remember when you measure shock shaft length, you measure from the bottom of the body ( dust boot off ), to the top of the shock end. You can just slide the dust boot down the shaft half way. Use a good set of calipers.

Not that you would want to use 40 series, but.........

What is the different between the 40 series and the standand Mt Tires in terms of handling? So far all I bought is the 40 series, Proline Crime fighter and Panther boa. Any other suggestion?

Ok i see this as an odd situation, the front arms have a tremendous ammount of droop, but with the shocks installed you can not get close to the max droop. also it seems as though the rubber booties are causing the problem, the spring collar bottoms aganst the bootie, leaving me about 3-5mm air gap under the front of the chasis.

This is leading me to believe the booties are too thick or the shock bodys are too long. If the bodys are too long then the shafts are too short.

Could one of you tell me how long your shock is from the top flat portion of the shock cap to the bottom of the bootie.

MEASUREMENTS with at least a caliper please.

The 40 series wheels are slightly larger than "standard" MAXX wheels, and I believe they offer a wider stance. The larger tires could work OK, if you are racing on a large track with bigger jumps, but the smaller wheels offer more steering, and a quicker responding truck at the expense of stability. You will notice that the smaller wheels are better on the truggies, though.

I would recommend running the stock Crime Fighter tires and OFNA wheels that come with the CRT, or try the HPI Nubz. I tested a set today and the truck drove very well and seemed to have plenty of steering, but seemed a bit undergeared so I would recommend going up 1-3 teeth on the clutch bell with those.

OK guys,
Just heard back from the boys at Jammin. All is well, the front shocks are supposed to bottom out before the chassis touches down. so im good to go.

Now on to the 40 series question.
Lets compair apples to apples, Proline Bow Ties, comes in maxx sise and 40 series.

Same overall height
Same tread width
The only difference is the 40 series has a very thin sidewall this means very little sidewall flex and more responsive when changing directions. The Maxx size has a very cushy feel and is more forgiving because the tire flexes arround on the rim a lot more.

Think of it as, 40 series is like a tire and rim on a new Corvette, lots of rim thin tire. The maxx size is like a tire on a Jeep small rim lots of tire for rough terrain.

The CRT wheels, as well as the new Thunder Tiger ST-1 wheels, have 28mm of offset. The ProLine wheels have 30mm of offset. I'd run the 23mm Dace adapters (which add 3mm of offset on each side), but use the ProLine 23mm "maxx" offset wheels. These only have 15mm of offset. This will reduce the width of the truck by 20mm. To gain clearance on steering, dremel the inside bead of the rim off and mount the tire to the inner lip (Matt Gosch does this with his CrimeFighters). They make the tire have a more rounded profile. Between the slightly narrow width and tire profile, you'll be dialing steering out of the truck.

It really makes no sense to me as to why the CRT even has offset wheels. The purpose of a wider arm suspension is to not run offset wheels or adapters. The HotBodies LSP has the same length arms as the CRT, but uses Maxx offset rims.

Also, my buddy ran the Dace Savage tank kit in his CRT at the CRCRC indoor gas champs last weekend. With a HotMod P5, he got 18-1/2 minutes of run time during pratice. On Sunday, the temps dropped outside and with it slightly richer tune, he ran the entire 15 minute C-main without pitting. That includes the initial delay before the 15 minute race started and however much time he took to finish his last lap which is a few seconds over 15. He ran it around for another lap and ran out of fuel. Talk about RUNTIME!
