What comm lathe to get
#2
get a lathe with the armature stopper from both sides. It makes cutting a comm quicker as no shimming is needed which takes alot of time to do. I only know of 2 that has them (Fantom or the Team Orion Quickset up)

What's wrong with the Cobra? I've had a Cobra for 6 years now and it works fine. I also have the little power supply that mounts underneath it. Worth the extra hundred bucks.
I'm still amazed at the machining quality of Hudy. If you're going to upgrade, get the best. A comm lathe is one thing in this hobby you can always use.
Well, unless you go brushless.

I have seen just about every type of comm lathe and the one thing that people forget is If it is setup properly they all cut comms Great...
If you have to upgrade...
I like the HUDY I use....
The Orion one looks real nice for the Price plus a friend uses it and it cuts perfect also...
The New Xipp one looks nice....
Expect the same kind of cut....
If the lathe is setup square and your bit is sharp. and the comm has good support and there is no slop....You will get a great cut...
I still see the occasional Twister lathe and they cut great still...
If you are use to the CObra...I would say stay with it....It will say alot more that you are beating people with a 12yr old lathe than a brand new one...LOL

There's no "setting up" or hoping your lathe comes set up right with the Fantom lathe, everyone of them that I"ve seen people have cut awesome. It's machined from a solid block of alum so you know it's right and will not get knocked out of whack b/c of that and it's awesome case.

the Fantom lathe I also considered and it's nice....but for $400.00+ is way out of my budget.
the Integy lathe is a bargain at $115.00 at Tower and it's solidly built.
