Default Tc3 gearing and general advice

Hey guys, I have a tc3 that I just bought a xerun 3.5t and an hk120a esc for. Not sure how to gear a car with that high of a kv rating. Suggestions?

Also, I'm driving it for fun with some friends, so please don't hate me for this, but I had to try buying a gyro while I was at it, any pitfalls with those things? Seemed like a good idea seeing as we typically just chase each other around and I want lessen the skid outs.

Lastly, sway bars...worth the money ?

Thanks!

Dan

Talking

You need about 8.57 fdr .... 72t spur and 21t pinion, with no esc advance timing + 30 degree motor timing....

Thank ya sir.

Stupid question on bodies....190mm still fit a 200mm body with offset wheels?

190mm would be my only choice... You could get the 200mm to fit though....

Default timing is 15.25 on the 120a, and I don't "think" I can actually adjust the timing on the motor itself. It has a cap with three screws in the rear of the motor...I'm really sorry to sound like an idiot, but am I actually supposed to change the structure of the motor by adjusting that cap?

It's pictured and detailed here
http://www.hobbywing.com/product_show.asp?id=251

And when you said, no advance timing on the esc, I'm assuming I dial it back to zero?

Thanks a ton man, I really appreciate it cuz I do not want to smoke any electronics

That motor has fixed motor timing, no way of changing it.

Wink

Yes sir, fixed timing, and only 9100kv... I would suggest you also gear to temp too , while starting at 8.57fdr...

If you're running a 200mm body you'd likely want +6 offset wheels for the rear and +3 for the front. Depends on the body too, even though some are 200mm they are even wider.

For example, this is a 200mm HPI body, but it's actually 210mm in the rear. It's sitting on a TC3 running +6 wheels in the rear.

Another example, here is a 200mm HPI body with the same wheels and tires. You can see that the +6 offset wheels fit nicely in the rear.

gorgeous car!

update: got it assembled last night and the process of doing so was baffling... I soldered everything up very clean and programmed the throttle range and put the settings to default without the sensor plug, then plugged it in and the car won't work sensored, but it works great sensorless... so strange

so i went with a lower fdr than recommended for my first run, and I stuck with a 16t pinion to the 82t* spur, and omg that thing zips! 2s only, and it had to be pulling 65mph with ease. the motor is smooth, the acceleration is insanely powerful, and now i need new tires...LOL!

i'm going to gear up to your drive ratio tonight and will report back accordingly. so far so good as far as electronics go.

the next question pertains to stability as i can't get it to track that straight...and I've tried a variety of high and low end servos. could this be due to the offset of the wheels you are talking about? it seems to fade left/right at higher speeds, possibly I need a new body? idk...running an r9-r right now, but i'm always looking for suggestions

thanks again for the helpful advice!

More questions...

It's running well and still is only running as Sensorless, I'm completely baffled by that but it works great so oh well. Still running the 8.5dr and it does get hot, but it's also dead of summer and I do parking lots so it's almost always 3/4 throttle. Gianna gt body does fit and looks overly sexy with some offset wheels. Stupid ridiculous fast fun little car.

That gyro...waste of money, hated it.

On to the shocks and steering. How loose can I go with the shocks and what is the most advantageous balance of weight to spring to oil ratio? My steering at low speeds is tolerable, but at high speeds it won't turn more than 20 degrees while powered. I was hoping I could get it to "stick" a bit better so I could go left to right without the oversteer skid, but no luck figuring that one out. I'm guessing it has something to do with the suspension. Any advice?

Thanks again for all the advice, never thought I'd be a fan of on road, but it's all I've driven in the past couple weeks!
