The b5m comes with a steel topshaft. so unless you upgraded, it will be different.

Yes, just checked. Same gears (charcoal colored) as the T5M shows, but steel top shaft.

Maybe a geometry change for more rear bias while still mid motor (allowing the mid motor to work when it traditionally wouldn't - a la X Factory).
No geometry or gear mesh change. It appears the V2 gear box was changed so that the 3-gear and 4-gear case share the same alloy topshaft and smaller 5x10x4 bearings throughout. The original 6x12x4 topshaft bearing has been eliminated.

using the same topshaft for 3 gear and 4 gear does make sense. no reason to have several different sized top shafts running around. I guess the after market companies with scramble to make the new sized shafts now.

We will keep this one for now since I have changed the title. If someone wants to put together a post with all of the available information which is similar to the first post in the B5M thread I would be happy to merge their post with it. The only thing is they have to agree to help keep the first page current and if they can no longer do this they need to help us find a replacement.

Just curious,

Where is everyone getting the pricing and pre-orders from? I haven't seen them listed on any of the websites as of yet. I'm a member at Tower Hobbies and have not seen it to pre-order as someone else posted.

This seems to point to what someone mentioned earlier as the rear motor may just be a conversion kit instead of a standalone complete kit. Kinda sucks if you just want the rear motor though, you're in pretty deep for one at that point.

Just talked with some one at Team Associated and he said there is no plans for a rear motor kit,or even the parts to do it at this time.
He said that the mid motor worked the best at most tracks over a rear motor.
Some what surprised they have no rear motor plans, but time will tell. Also no factory team kit.
Sorry if this was already answered before.

I'm torn as to whether or not they will release a stand-alone rear motor version. Team Associated has probably looked at sales of the B5R vs B5M and depending on how much the mid motor version outsold the rear may decide not to release a rear motor version at all.

I am wondering if, from their perspective, the T4.2 Team is good enough for those that want a rear motor ST.

TLR is providing RM kits in their SCT and you can get the optional MM conversion. I honestly have not driven a MM ST. It may be the thing to have "everywhere". We wont know. But conversion kits make sense. For AE to maintain multiple production lines for the same car/truck is not super cost effective. Our local track is pretty much giving away RM buggy chassis protectors, because pretty much everyone is MM now. From what I remember if my T4, I think MM might be a good thing for the truck. I guess we will see in 3 to 6 months.

I would be interested in a chart of sales of RM vs MM B5's since January of last year. The RM car has like no resale value. Locally they sell for 100-125 with upgrades. Even the local outdoor tracks are going MM it seems. The T4 had a lot of ass end swing, imo. The MM truck will have less of that and might be just the way to go. But it will be heavier for the 17.5 class. Imo ST and SC should be 13.5 stock. Making them run 17.5 is just mean.

I wonder if this is why they did the 3 gear tranny as well being its geared towards stock racing which the RM excelled at. ST class is one thing but with how many guys run outdoor SCT I would imagine a rear motor would be wanted.

Wonder with the difference in chassis length of the SCT's that mid vs rear weight distribution isn't as big a gap to make it worth while. Makes sense in my brain but i'm wrong once in a while.

What's rear motor? Lol... Seriuosly, after driving the ct4.2 for a while it is the baddest thing I've ever driven! While RM might be easier at first, MM is here to stay and take over on all conditions.
