Same timing as you but I'm on a big outdoor asphalt track and my ORCA 21.5 FDR is 3.3 (133F with no fan) and needs to be somewhere in the 3.2 to 3.1 (range probably with a fan). Ran by mistake a 3.0 FDR and it was fast but hot (170F) and still not as fast as the fastest. Was hoping the R1 would fix that but now I'm told it's out of stock too. Just my Bad luck.

Does anyone else's motor whine loudly compared to other brands? I don't know that it matters but it's definitely noticeable.

the rpm of R1 motor is definitely very high. The whine is noticeable upon free revving. My r1 21.5 free revs higher than my reedy sonic 17.5. But it is not as fast due to lower torque across the board. R1 is definitely a fast motor but have to gear higher compared to most other motors.

42* mark on the can? anything over the 30* mark on the can my R1 17.5 clogs real bad.
I've been running a 3.97 - 4.15 fdr with 24* timing coming off the track after 6mins with a temp of 120*. The car is quick but I feel there is more in the motor.

I like this motor in 17.5 TC with 3.7 28 deg. timing, also feels better with a large spur and pinion combo, instead of small spur small pinion. 100/51 in xray seems to keep it in the powerband. 88/47 felt good but the lower rpm of the 51 pinion is fantastic.

Forgot to mention, carpet indoor at rsd Houston.

It's not the big spur big pinion combo that is causing the difference, you just have a different FDR than with the smaller spur and pinion (1.96 V 1.87) times your internal gear ratio.

Still not exactly the same FDR but much closer. Without wanting to start another long drawn out discussion, it's seldom that simply changing the size of the gears while keeping the FDR the SAME results in big changes in lap times. Two biggest benefits of different sized gears (but same FDR) are more efficient gear mesh and slight different CG from moving the motor forward/backward.
