It seems that a lot of guys in stock are almost using a "spec" tire. For the past year, I've been running chrome fronts/greylow rears. For two years before that, black/orange. Nothing is preventing you from running your favorite combination. Not sure why it would take someone else telling you what tire you can run for you to get back into 1/12 scale...

I realize that this would be a rule only for stock, but I would be most concerned over a spec tire favoring one chassis more than another. For instance, a CRC inline car runs well with magenta-pink, but a Serpent or Associated might need to run all magentas to get the best performance. Or a Black-Yellow combo that might work really well on a transverse car but poorly on a car with more front bias. I think tire choice is a good thing to retain in 1/12 scale.

I could support this for a race to see how it goes, but overall I feel it's unnecessary. And I bought a big box of Ultis and want to see them used before they go bad...

For stock 1/12 I am for the concept of spec tires!

Almost 2 years after the original post, it's a reality.

5280 Raceway - 2016 Mile High Indoor Championships - April 14-17th.

17.5 1/12 - on the purple stripe spec tires.

Looking forward to it.

would be nice if these tires were a little cheaper.... we are paying $15/cdn/pair for em, trueing them down to 42ish and getting a week or two out of them if we lucky for club racing/practice.. atm these tires are costing more than most touring car tires lol.
if you gotta have two or three sets of these to make it through a big race im not seeing the economy at all.
its a good tire.. easy to setup for, fast and consistant but... make them smaller from the factory and cheaper...

Some ran fast on them others where fast on other tires...... why mess this class up..... It will hurt car count. That's my 2 cents

i dont see how limiting tires is gonna hurt the class at all. at least everyone can share setup information on chassis alone on the same tires.
its worked very well for us with some of the closests racing ever.

Thumbs down

I dont like them at all. But, the fast guys are still fast on them. I'm still slow, just slower than I was before. I'll just go and be a pylon in Mod.

the tires are just too expensive

Where do these tires fall in the range? I assume they are harder than a blue/green combo?

The purple strip ones are Lilac (team purple), They work quite well, the big series up here is western Canada went to them this year in stock (13.5t), no issues at any of the different tracks (4 ) thus far, Plus everyone is in the same boat, so is a great equalizer. The last race I used a grand total of ONE set of tires, 4 qualies, and the main. Started at 42mm/41mm finished at 40.8mm/39.7mm. Not bad.

Most of the local clubs have gone with it for club racing as well, the only time you would like a different tire is on a green track with no groove, then rear traction is lacking a bit. But nothing a round of qualies wont fix.

It just means you need to tune the car for the tires, not tune the car WITH the tires.
