For any of you that are changing from the plastic outdrives to the steel, you need to note that they build differently. Here are the links for both types of builds.

Steel

Plastic

Thought you should know to make sure you get the correct parts.

When you get the steel outdrives, be sure to also purchase:
Diff rings #6579
T-nut #6579

Do you guys know where to get good instructions on converting a TC4 diff to a slipper spool? I would like to experiment on my backup car.

get some 31173 TC5 slipper pads, sand them down lightly on 1k sandpaper, asseble the diff without any balls, use locktite on the bolt.

install the diff and check if you have side play in the case, if not sand the pads a little more.

check page 5 for assembly
http://www.teamassociated.com/pdf/ca...c5r_manual.pdf

This will only work with steel outdrives

Also, when the pads wear out , the bits will lodge themselves between the pinion and diff ring gear....nice.... Lots of folks love to make it difficult !!!

I have built slipper spools with both 3912 and the lightweight 31062 outdrives, 3912 does have more surface area for the pad but both work great, I like the lighter ones for the weight savings.

Geez dude, I said I wanted to test a slipper spool in my backup car since it has a front diff. I already have a car with a front spool that is the primary. ??
