Default 4wd electric wheels and tires...

OK, so I decided to dust off the Tamiya Manta Ray and Kyosho Optima that had been sitting in the basement. The original tires on both are lacking the original pins, so they need replacing. Both cars use 12 or 13 mm drive hexes - the same size as modern touring cars. Losi XXX-4 tires are readily available, but rims are a problem. The XXX-4 uses 10mm hexes up front and drive pins in the rear.

Do the Academy SB 4wd buggy, Schumacher, or Yokomo use larger hexes on all four corners?

Would the Losi XXX-4 tires fit said rims?

Thanks...

Hello. The Academy SB uses Hexes that are the same size as touring cars. You will probably have to play with different types of wheels to find the right offset.

what about tamiya rims that from the baja series. they have the hex drive and are also 2.2inch for losi/proline tyres.

Last time I saw the new yoke it had pretty big hexs front and rear and the losi tires fit on it. So I'd take a look at those.

2.2inch rims that will fit (offset varies)

Any ACADEMY buggy rims (ie Sb Sport, Griffin)
Any KYOSHO 2.2 rims (from the Lazer, Triumph etc)
HPI "super star" rims - may be difficult to find, Tower Hobbies used to sell them.
Any TAMIYA 2.2rims (ie Gravel Hound, Rising Storm)

Unless Yok has a new kit in the works, the hubs are not hex drive and are extremely unique to Yok. I was about to make a hex to put on the Yok so that I could use standard wheels, but got a BJ4 instead... Quite an expensive solution.

Unfortunately, Yokomo, Academy and Schumacher use there own wheels and I'm not sure if there is an adapter that is made or works for those buggies. Fortunately, Losi and Proline tires will fit on those exclusive wheels, you just won't be able to use them interchangeably, be glad at one thing though, the Yokomo BC special and the older Yokomo BC even have different wheels.

I guess the one I saw had adapters, unless I'm seeing things.
