So are there any obvious advantages to the Kyosho over the Tamiya? Or just buy on brand preference? The Tamiya looks to have a lot more alloy / carbon fibre goodies. Any idea which would build lighter? I run on a medium grip off-road clay/dirt track. Thanks a lot.
But of hard one as I have been a T fan since I was young but I would have to go with the K car also as per vikingen said and it is not belt driven.
I did have a DB01R and that was a very good base entry car so I could see the 503 being a good car but I didn't and don't like belts but just my preference

Belts are not an issue, the buggy is uber smooth and the TRF shocks are one of the best. Kyosho while supported in Australia it's still not all that great.

Both would be great cars but you get more for your money with the Tamiya I feel.

Thanks guys. Aside from local support, which I don't really have even for Kyosho (ordered my RB6 from inter-state because I couldn't find a local, local supplier), are there any technical reasons, be it weight, durability, balance, tuneability, whatever that makes one car better than the other (don't care about cost at all).

Yeah no real "local" support here in SA either but happy to send my money interstate first than OS if I can.
In regards to weight, durability, balance, tune-ability etc I think that's a very good question and maybe only can be answered once the ZX6 is in the hands of "average Joe" I guess

Hi , I was in the same boat, have the RB6 and the ZX5 fs2 SP but wanted a new 4 wheeler, I really think we are spoiled for choice at the moment - D413, ZX6, TRF503 , dex410v4 etc etc.

I really wanted to go with TRF503 but it just doesn't look balanced to me - with the motor transverse and hanging out the side, the diffs are nearly identical to the touring car diffs - which with the TRF417v5 I found to be leaky and annoying to get right. The shocks are overrated, i remember building the 417v5 aeration dampers absolutely brand new and they still leaked from the shock shaft seals.

The ZX6 will obviously be top class, especially with the best big bores on the planet.

I have the HB D413 backordered and Kyosho ZX-6 on preorder. Whichever one gets shipped first, is the one I'll keep The ZX-6 looks great and the D413 has proven to be great. I like that both these buggies support shorty lipos and are shaft driven. Both of these companies have proven with winning results that their engineering works.

While there are two different servo configurations the car itself has different layout of the electronics too. You will notice the different motor and speed control positions. As for the reasoning behind it, I don't know.

My quess about the two different shorty layouts is that the one with the motor in front will be used for high traction tracks as the weight is moved more forward in the chassis. For medium bit tracks you can do with the motor in the rear and the shorty on the other side and finally if you have really low traction then you can try saddle packs

I've owned a Durango and own multiple Kyosho vehicles and I will tell you with great confidence, that the Kyosho plastics are much stronger.
