The Trackstar is a re-badged Reedy Sonic motor. Again, depending on your track layout, your FDR gearing can be anywhere from 3.0 to 5.0, your endbell timing from 0 to 40, and this will also depend on if you run turbo boost or not.

When I have run a 13.5 hobbyking motor in my Sakura Xi, it has been indoors on carpet with a 60 foot backstretch. I ran at 20' timing, with 4.25 FDR and maximum turbo boost, during an actual race condition. In North America, if one is not racing, one is bashing - and there's nothing wrong with bashing.

Sorry if I have not been clear enough, but if you are playing outside by yourself in non-racing conditions, then your gearing will not be too much of an issue, so long as you monitor your equipment and operate within safe parameters. Furthermore, your setup will not be much of an issue, as you really have nothing to base it on at the moment. There is no universal general setup, other than to build the car as per instructions and begin the troubleshooting from there. As I mentioned, the tires in the kit are soft and adequate to give you a better understanding of where you want to go after initial setup. For anyone to mention a specific tire to you now, would simply be opinion, versus knowledgeable recommendation.

Now that we know what your intention is, and that you are using your friends TC4 as an example, I would recommend you take a look at his TC4 setup and gearing. If he has a similar motor in his TC4, your Sakura with a 13.5 will be similar in speed, if you match his FDR. If he has an old, beat up motor, then the trackstar 13.5 will pass him easily. Speed is relative, and racing with a friend is only fun when both cars are operating at similar speeds. For this reason, I would recommend a 17.5 or 21.5 motor, as trying to rub side-by-side with 13.5 motors can be difficult and destructive.

So go out and have fun with the RC car. If you notice that the vehicle is not fast enough, you can either gear higher, increase timing, or add turbo boost. If you notice that you need to turn tighter, explain your symptoms here and we can suggest various tuning options. As long as you do not overgear the motor or run with 1mm ride height, you'll be fine.

Finally ordered mine!Added the front Diff and the aluminium steering + servo saver.
Got as spare a pack front arms.

I think I'll run 81T Spur and 23T pinion at the 10.5T Trackstar. Hopefully that'll work
Kind of excited to start the build!

Glad to hear. For what it's worth, running an FDR of about 7.1 is going to leave the car very under-geared.

Okay, sadly to hear that. Was acutally the recommendation of the germanys Distributor of 3Racing. Anyway, I am going to have a 85T, 81T so what would you suggest for a pinion?
Thanks in advance!
AS you said before I can try to get around 4 that would mean a spur about 70T and a pinion with 35T?!

Or 76T (should fit without problems) with 37T I would und up with 4,11 fdr...

7.1 FDR will be fine to start. Once you get a handle of the car, you can gear up to reach the powerband of the motor.

I achieve a 4.0 FDR by using a 66t Spur and a 33t Pinion.

Good to know that I can Start without destroying the Motor
I read des pages back an there was said, that spurs below 72 wont fit that easy, thats why I chose 76 ( and resuting in an 37 pinion).
I am ordering stuff anyway, so if you say I'd way Vetter to go with that, its bought!

That would be fine (500k), though I would recommend starting with the spool in that case.

Okay thanks! Read in this thread that some people even run 1-2milo...will order them too, so I can learn something.
Kind of odd that Sakura themselves said I should go with the 2k in front....seems quite a bit low

They got nothing to base their recommendation on. 2K is simply a "safe" setting. In my case, I used to use a thick oil front diff (2.5M), but a year or so ago I changed to the composite spool and have not gone back. I like the spool because of the high speed turning capability. The front diff aluminum outdrives also needed to be changed out for the steel ones, which I found to be annoying.

I would recommend the car to be initially run as per settings in the manual, in order to get a baseline.

I just have to say I wish a kit like this were around when I started (in 2000). Very low cost of entry to get a kit you can easily build on as your experience grows.

~$100 kit
~$100 Decent Radio System
~$120 ESC & Motor
~$60 Couple of cheap LiPos
~$50 Body and Tires

About $450 to get started, once you factor in some tools, misc accessories. Not bad for these days.

Looking forward to getting this chassis back on the road. Ever since last September it had broken steering rack. My parts just came In the mail. And next weekend I get to do some real practice runs with it. Kinda disappointed it took 3 racing all most 1/2 year to get v2 steering rack and it's not even the floating servo mount....
